That depends on several factors, but under "standard"conditions, most AH-64D Apache Longbow battalions have three companies -- with each company having eight AH-64D attack helicopters. So 24 per battalion.

This doesn't include other transport helicopters, command, scout copters, etc.

So how come people live in Denver Colorado USA? That is pretty hi and I wouldn't consider that a hill but mountian. So how is that a barrier then?

Mountians shouldn't have been a barrier. Maybe in the begining of the game, but after researching technology they should be able to be accesable.

I have yet to see a unit of warriors in real life defeat a stronger army just because the city has 40% defence culture.

also, Just because Mt. Evererst didn't have an Apache helicopter battle the winds it has been done numerous other places of the world, as well as other cities are in mountians as well.

also I find it funny that a tile of forest will give you more production than a tile of mountian, wich is ZERO. the forest should be long gone while a mined mountian should last a very long time.

Denver is on plains, not on a mountain. Bad example.

Yes there are cities in the mountains, but they are on the hilly part of the mountains. They are not on the peaks.

Peaks represent class 3 terrain and above. You move entire companies through that kind of terrain.

The cultural defense modifier represents, in my view, the maze of city streets which grow up as a city matures.

              i.e. Stalingrad

Streetfighting gives defenders a unique advantage in combat. Bombardment represents the razing of the city's civilian structures, lowering this advantage.

culture also represents (at least to me) the willingness of the civilian population of a city to resist and not aid the enemy attack of a city.

I think Firaxians must absolutely patch it before the evidence get embarassing........

                      Brainstorming-

Maybe when crossing a mountain a unit has a chance of getting lost ala the old style trimene lost at sea.

It takes many turns to cross mountains.

                      Units loose health in mountains.

(for future games) model land height as a property of tiles rather then just hills, flat or mountains.

Population of that "city" was only several hundreds.

                            Marvellous idea.

...which are so rare on the map anyway that at worst I need to take one extra turn to just go around them with regular troops.

I don't think I'd ever bother building alpine troops - I'd just keep building the (presumably) cheaper regular ones. Much more effective that way.
It appears that you haven't seen a mountain range flanked by hilly terrain.

Does anyone know if there is an "ignore impassable terrain" flag available right now without having to create one, anyways?
