Oh gods, the game's got enough to play with already. And if regular snowy plans were enough to cripple Napoleon's and Hitler's armies, then peaks and glaciers have to modeled as something much worse.

Remember: it's not done when there's nothing left to add, but rather when there's nothing left to take away =p.

(Instead of adding Alpine troops, I'd take away Marines.)

I'm okay with the current system.

Remember: They are called peaks- not mountains. The hills represent the foothills of the mountains (though the map generator should be sure to include hills around the peaks- though not necessarily in all cases). The peaks represent altitudes above 10,000 feet. Yes I know there's a road going to the top of Pikes peak in Colorado. But for the most part, you won't see too many roads above 10,000 feet. Peaks also represent steep slopes too steep to put structures on.

For you fellow hikers out there. That represents class 3 terrain and above.

Going up agaisnt defended hill is easier then a mountain, IMO

Who has ever fortified Mt Everest?
                  Mountain passages in Italy, yes

guess I just helped your point

I just think its cool that there are really strong natural barriers on the map (besides seas, which are also a sort of barrier). Gives a nice adeded tactical feel to the game.

I've learned to accept mountains as unpassable.
They make a great natural defence to put a
city next to. A mountain range severly limits
                      the acces for attacking enemies.

The only time I was REALLY annoyed with mountains
was when a barbarian swordsman spawned on
a coast tile COMPLETELY surrounded by mountains.
He had nowhere to go, and I had no way to kill him.

I built a city near it some turns later, so I
got a "the enemy has been spotted near Boston"
message every turn for a couple of MILLENIA untill
I got marines and could exact sweet, sweet revenge
                      on the annoying little git.
"Would you people please try to remember that I am EVIL !?"

A-Team apart, I have seen that civ 4 gives much importance to the terrain and just for this reason it sounds pretty weird that those peaks are martian lands below martian skies.

P.S. : yes , in my country , Italy , we have more or less 150 mountains large car passages above 2500 mt where even larger trucks can cross easily in summer. During winter usually they uses tunnels.

                          Brutus66 speaks the truth!

Maybe have a civ or two who has a UU that can cross mountains too.

Hmm, two civs being able to do something none of the other can...some nice exploits you've just introduced there teutonic.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

Ah, you do make a point. However, the Vikings UU in CIV III could attack from the water before anyone else could (until they got marines I believe)

Along with having these bonuses, I would think they would have checks and balances to make it even.

Ok, to summarize the thread we can say the following has been voted :

                                - Alpine troops for every civilization would be appreciated

                                - Helos must be able cross mountains with reduced movement over them

I hope the patch will take care of that without using mods
