          Jag, what INI did you alter to get that log?

            Basically I googled ATI 8.18 and found a bunch of posts for ATI's newest Linux driver. I went to ATI and clicked to Drivers -> Linux and saw that the version number listed was 8.18. If I was running Linux, it looks like I could bump up to version 8.18.

            I'm also noticing that the driver date on ATI's Windows page is 10/12/05 but simply installs the 6.14 drivers when I download it.

            The file 5-10_xp-2k_dd_cp_wdm_27256.exe is the 6.14 driver from what I can tell.

            I've uninstalled the ATI drivers. I've installed the DX version on the disk. I've even reinstalled Civ4.

            No luck yet.

                Taking a look I did what Tebriel did, checked...and I -also- have 8.18.0.0 on it, and it doesn't want to run.

                  When I click on driver details, it shows file version: 6.14.10.0298, which is the other number. So one is the -driver- version, one is a -file- version.

                    CivilizationIV.ini

                    In the [DEBUG] section, set

                    ; Enable the logging system
                    LoggingEnabled = 1

                    Prolly helps to enable
                    ; Enable rand event logging
                    RandLog = 1

                    ; Enable message logging
                    MessageLog = 1

                    as well.

                    I also set
                    D3D9Query = 1

                    just to make sure.

                      Ok, I feel sheepish.

                      My *driver* is at 8.18.0.0 when I go into the Properities for the Display Adapters. So if 8.18 is the goal, I'm there!

                        Err, um me too. Well, the last step in goal setting is to set a new goal once you reach yours.

                          er, yeah. dxdiag reports 6.14 but hardware manager properties reports 8.18

                          we're all up to speed then, and still no dice.

                            8.18 is the driver. 6.14 is the file. Don't ask, I don't know.

                              Yup, same here. Driver 8.18, file 6.14.etcetera

                              Doesn't work.
