Like I said, that figure is based on the polls here and over at Civfanatics, that's all I have to go by right now. Granted these are probably not very accurate, but it certainly indicates a serious problem with ATI cards.

I don't think anyone is denying it.

I found a program that allowed me to uninstall Direct X. I then went to install it from the CD and got an error. Here is my direct X log from the windows directory.

It doesn't matter to me, although that was another slip-up.

I've been looking forward to this game for the longest time, and I expect it to run perfectly. Even World of Warcraft, the buggiest single game to date, worked out of the box. They just ****ed it up with their patches.
Well... Not everyone with an ATI card is having an issue. I can tell you that if you're using a "3rd party" ATI version of the card, i.e. one that was made by Dell or whoever and not bought from a store as a stand alone card and placed in your PC you may or may not be able to use the newest ATI drivers.

There's really no way for Firaxis to test the game with drivers and/or video cards that are 3+ years old and are made by manufacturer's to spec's different than ATI themselves make. Blame the 3rd party manufacturer for these issues if you want, since it's their fault they stopped supporting your system hardware.

ATI drivers (what is the use of having a great piece of hardware if the software is crap?) and their hit-n-miss ability to either crash a system or plain not work at all, are why I switched to nVidia years ago and have had zero problems since.

The problem is a lot of us are using newer cards and still experience the problems, which is by large not really acceptable.

I have the problem, and I run a GENUINE ATi Radeon X800XL. It's not a 3 year-old card; it's a fairly new powerful card, and there's no reason it could not have been included in the tests 2K games ran. Believe me, I'm more than familiar with the QA process, and there's absolutely NO reason for this type of issue to pop up. This is a ****up, I don't know from whom, but it's a ****up nonetheless.

This reminds me of an old issue I had at work once. I was QA lead on a PC project, and everything went smoothly. We release the game; a week later, I start receiving loads of complaints from customers (I also did customer support) that our game crashes at a certain point. I make a full inquiry, and it turns out our producer released another version of the game without sending it to QA first; he figured nothing would change. Problem is, the programers made some small changes to the game to optimize it, and it resulted in the game crashing quite often.

Similar issues happen all the time in game development. Someone screwed up, and loads of players are now disgruntled with something which I figure is an otherwise excellent product.

I thought I'd just update so that I'm ready when I get the game. But I have problems finding out where I should go. I have a Medion Cybercom laptop with ATi Mobility Radeon 9700 SE. Tried this page, where my card seems to be listed, but I can't install it, the installer says it's not made for my computer?

                    I have a Nvidia TI4600.

Downloaded and installed latest driver whih is version 8.1....whatever it is.

The Nvidia display shows it as 8.1..... but DXDiag still shows the driver as being the 6.1.4.....version.

Anyone know how to make it recognise updated driver so i cang et Civ 4 working?

                    Cheers

                    *NM Fixed* cheers anyways

I doubt it. From what I've read so far, only the 9xx series by Intel supports Hardware T&L.
