What he's basically saying is that he thinks it's bad manners to perpetuate the stereotype that the French are unwashed, rat-eating beret heads.

Honestly, I feel that France as we know it is doomed. The burgeoning muslim population and the government's social policies will eventually catch up with her.

Well... not to offend the french, but this merely supports my point.
        either:
        > What makes you think the rest of the world (or even apolyton) speaks french?
        or
        > what makes you think the rest of the world (or even apolyton) admires you for speaking french?

Any other valid reason I can't imagine for using this language on an international forum like this.

Besides the common thing I mentioned previously between America and France, this is a main difference: english IS more or less a world standard .

What do the French know of 'manners'

Where do you think the "great unwashed" jest started? Remember, my ancestors had to house their occupation forces.

You can understand him speaking French for you are French. I would have had the same reaction if somone started spouting any language without providing a translation.

Besides this is an English Speaking community, I suspect many people would not be posting if the majority of the text here was in German or Chinese. You'd have a whole different crowd: A German or Chinese Crowd.

Um, I wish I didn't have to say this. The Americans in this thread don't represent the whole of the US. (Unfortunately, considering the popular vote in the last US presidential election, it's entirely possible that said Americans' attitudes are held by a majority of Americans.) I for one like Europeans and consider the French an ally. Mostly an ally. Anyway, I don't consider the French "surrendermonkeys" and it embarrasses me that the notion of "freedom fries" actually crossed someone's mind in the US. It embarrasses me even more that someone took it seriously.

This also shouldn't have to be said, but I'll say it anyway: I'm not a liberal nor Democrat. I'm an independent.
I no longer use this account.

I thought freedom fries were stupid, for one thing the blasted things aren't really French, they are Belgian IIRC, what they are is frenched. That said cheese eating surrender monkey jokes can be fun, but so can internationally unaware American jokes, snooty British or any other number of jokes.
