Mah, I was afraid of that. Oh well, will just have to wait until we see all the official stuff about the game! Oh and I LOVE how much you're talking up the fantastic diplomacy, it is REALLY wetting my appetite !

I'm sorry, but it really does annoy me reading 'breakers' all the time.

An idea I had since my last post was to have the traits make it easier to spawn a Great Person of a corresponding type. A Creative leader would have it slightly easier spawning Great Artists. A Financial one would have it easier getting Great Merchants, while Industrious means easier Great Engineers, Organized means easier Great Scientists (a bit of a stretch), and Spiritual means easier Great Prophets. Organized leaders would have a much smaller bonus, but it would apply to all Great People. Expansive and Aggressive are left out in the cold with this scheme, but maybe we can devise a Great Explorer and Great General to fill them out, or balance the Great People production deficit with another, different type of benefit.
1) have you actually won a game by conquering all other civs? As what I'm reading by now this may very well be one of the hardest ways to win?
2) You said the Notre Dame would give points for a great artist. Would't it be logical to get great priest points for it?

Since Civ1 I have hardly ever played another civilization than Germany... that's why I have a very important question: can you (Solver? MarkG?) say anything about the german Panzer? Does it bring any advantages allowing a little more Blitzkrieg?
I didn't find Germany to be that attractive in Civ3. I liked religious civs more. Japan was among my favorites.
I am sure to have played at least 15 different civilizations.
Civ3 Germany was very well suited for early warfare and late industrial warfare. Early, because warrior code for archers and bronze working for spearmen were prerequisite techs and the militaristic trait made baracks cheaper (crucial in the early game!) and promotions more likely. Late industrial, because of the Panzer UU, which was one of the better ones, if not the best in the whole game. Inbetween it had little to offer and the AI could not play it too well, so it mostly was a rather mediocre or small AI civ and its aggressivity did not matter much.
Interesting on the spys and espionage, I guess we will have to wait for the game to see specifics. At least its an improvement over Civ III

The first person to guess the reason why one of the possible trait combinations is not in Civ4 will get a cookie .
Well, 8 diffrent stats, cant have two of the same. So 28 possible combinations.
18 nations and 8 of them have two leaders. That makes 26 in total. By writing horisonal and vertical columns on a paper (with each trait bot horisontal and vertical) and matching them to the leaders, i've come up with Philosophical, Industrious and Creative, Industrious to be the two missing trait combinations.
The traits:
Industrious: +50% Wonder production speed & Double production speed of Forge
Philosophical: Double Great People birth rate & Double production speed of University
Creative: +2 culture per city & Double production speed of Theater, Coliseum
Philosophical is a very powerful trait, given recent previews among others. Why it's such a bad combination with Idustrious Im not really sure.. There is a golden age triggering wonder, that with a lot of GP who can trigger them too, can UUs still trigger a golden age? if they can, you can have like six or so golden ages if i've done my maths correctly. But it's still Philosophical trait that makes it good. Industrious is sweet too, being able to build a lot of wonders. So I guess both are considered top traits and perhaps that alone is why they are not in the game together.
Why Creative, Industrious would be overpowered thought, remains a mystery to me. The +2 culture per city seems nice enought to perhaps give border colonies a little space, but quite a weak trait all in all, if im not misstaken on the effects?? Double production speed of Temple seems better for producing culture than Theaters or Coliseums, if you can only grab hold of a religion early enought.
EDIT: Nevermind this post. It all makes sence now. I didn't know wonders could give a bonus to GPP.
