There is always a good reason for negativity: it puts some pressure on the gaming company. And it also challanges ideas, and includes a wish for improvement.
Now it's pretty much too late to be negative, but it had a purpose 2-3 weeks ago and back.
I mean, if everyone was just incredibly positive all the time, the company could put out any crap they dared and just print a famous name on it and that would be a best-seller. So....
LONG LIVE THE DAMN NEGATIVITY!!
And let it spread as new games are made.

Not that I have been other than extremely positive this time around(I'm usually a huge pessimist). But I haven't followed Civ 4 from the list on at all - I discovered it was being made a few weeks ago, which is probably a huge reason for my surprise in how well made and inventive Civ 4 seemed.
If anything of what we have seen holds true, I can only congratulate Soren and his team at Firaxis for actually trying to make something fresh and inspired of an old series.

If the three negative things in my book out of dozens, if not hundreds of known features (tile sharing, 1 trait combination imbalanced, shallow espionage [not much info here, though]) already make me the epitome of negativity and even yield me a valuable torch, this game must be truly outstanding.
Besides, no, not negativity should live long, but the right mix of appreciation and criticism, both where they are due.

And soon we'll know if it's just something you said to get loads of money from Firaxis without any thought on your reputation.Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139.14a
