Man, you really are over-reacting aren't you! Who's attacking your opinion? I'm concerned about this new feature as much as you are, but since I've seen it work in SMAC, I'm not going to get ballistic about it until I've played the game. It might turn out to be a good feature, a way of forming true alliances. We won't know until we get the game, so I'm not going to jump to any conclusions just yet.

You're usually one of the level headed ones around here, I'm surprised that you're being so touchy about this whole issue.

No, it doesn't break the game, as far as it is known.

This is your opinion, which you are entitled to have.

Since lots of people have been playing it so far and this hasn't "broken" the game, I don't see how you can be in a position to assert this, since you haven't played it.

Since this feature existed with Alpha Centauri in a comparable game, I can very well evaluate it. Besides, it does not take too much imagination to see the consequences.

What it's done has scrapped one of your favorite strategies.

Well, boohoo, a lot of the new features are doing that for me and everyone else. That's part of it being a new game, not just an upgrade. You'll adapt and learn to play differently.

So back off the pessimism and wait until you've played the game, at least, to whine and gnash teeth over a feature.

This is illogical at best. While browsing these boards I see thousands of posts "awesome", "great feature", "wonderful", "very nice" etc. etc. Neither of these people have played the game. How would it be, if I - or somebody else for that matter - would jump at these people in the style you jumped at me, and say:

"I see you getting excited when I think you really don't need to be yet--especially since you haven't even played the game! So I'm just suggesting you relax and not get too excited until you see how it plays out. You might end up totally hating the new way and then you'll feel darn silly for all the unjustified praising beforehand."

No, no, NO! I never want to see that system used again, it just makes things to easy to bottleneck a location. I like the way it was done in Civ 3 for the most part, except that units with ZOC should have been more effective in damaging passing units. And slowing down fast units would have been nice too.

Well... at least units sharing the same square fixes the ship-runs-into-submarine-DOW that pissed me off way too much in Civ3. So the game has become a bit better, too.
