    • LOL! Well, I hereby pass the negativity torch to Ralph, then.
I've been on these boards for a long time and I still don't know what to think when it comes to you -- FrantzX, December 21, 2001

"Yin": Your friendly, neighborhood negative cosmic force.

          • There is always a good reason for negativity: it puts some pressure on the gaming company. And it also challanges ideas, and includes a wish for improvement.
Now it's pretty much too late to be negative, but it had a purpose 2-3 weeks ago and back.

I mean, if everyone was just incredibly positive all the time, the company could put out any crap they dared and just print a famous name on it and that would be a best-seller. So....

            LONG LIVE THE DAMN NEGATIVITY!!
And let it spread as new games are made.

            • Not that I have been other than extremely positive this time around(I'm usually a huge pessimist). But I haven't followed Civ 4 from the list on at all - I discovered it was being made a few weeks ago, which is probably a huge reason for my surprise in how well made and inventive Civ 4 seemed.
If anything of what we have seen holds true, I can only congratulate Soren and his team at Firaxis for actually trying to make something fresh and inspired of an old series.

              • If the three negative things in my book out of dozens, if not hundreds of known features (tile sharing, 1 trait combination imbalanced, shallow espionage [not much info here, though]) already make me the epitome of negativity and even yield me a valuable torch, this game must be truly outstanding.

Besides, no, not negativity should live long, but the right mix of appreciation and criticism, both where they are due.

                • Too late Ralphie. You´re it. Find someone more negative than you if you don´t like the title.

                    • Indeed, if Ralph is the most negative person about Civ4, then the game's absolutely great .

                          • And soon we'll know if it's just something you said to get loads of money from Firaxis without any thought on your reputation.

                            • No danger of it deteriorating anyway.

Sure, but since everybody pays tribute to positivity and many have a "don't say anything bad about civ"-attitude, I highlighted the other side's importance.
