On the contrary, we got to know a few days ago that the publishing date has been moved forward a few weeks from November to late October.(that's what this thread is all about btw

All I know is what EB Games wrote me:
"Thanks for pre-ordering from EBgames.com! As an added benefit to ordering from us, we’ll keep you informed of ship date changes. We are writing to let you know that we have changed the projected ship date for Civilization IV to 11/15/2005. The publisher did not provide us with a specific date so this is our best estimate only and should not be considered firm. We will update this date again as we receive new information. As always, EBgames.com will not charge your credit card until we ship your order."
And regarding your comment about what this thread is about. Yes I can read! Also why I thought the notification from EB Games was important in this thread!

This could mean one of two things. Either the game is much more polished then they thought or (more likely) they want to release it at the very beginning of November so the intial sales rush slows down and supplies in stories are rebuilt up for the Christmas buying season.
I think the second is more likely and that the big issue is getting it on the shelves for the full Christmas buying season even if lopping off a few weeks or months of development means the game is released in an unpolished state. More then ever I am glad I have not pre-ordered. If it is buggy and unfinished (like Civ3 was) then I will not be buying until after several patches have been released and then only if people I trust give it good reviews.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Indeed, I am going to try to wait a month or so after it's released, and come back here to read what others who will have already owned the game, have to say about Civ IV.
If a lot of them will be demanding a much needed patch upon reading these future posts, then I might wait even longer, until that patch is fully available.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

That said, we know Firaxis have been polishing the game for over 2 months already, with another month or so to go. I suspect that pushing up the date 2 weeks isn't gonna make *that* huge a difference.
