me too... i am sure someday some civ developer finds a way to finally implement a less static concept of civilizations into a new civ version , a concept that allows for splitting and uniting of different civilizations, making colonial spin-offs as well as nation unions like the E.U. Yes Mali deserves to be in, not for tokenistic reasons, they are 'black' or 'African', but because they're noteworthy.

I think that Mali deserves to be in the game. However there are many better civs to include such as the Jews, the Thai, the Portuguese, the Turks, and the Dutch. I think it is stupid to have a civilization in the game just because it is black.

I have no problems with the Khmer or the Celts being in, but the Zulus are of interest really only because of their very rapid conquest of neighbouring peoples in a small area and their defeat of the British at Isandhlwana.

Civilization has shown some extraordinary omissions in the past- with Arabs and Turks being entirely absent for far too long, especially given the impact that both groupings had on world history.

Mali had a significant impact on both Europe's economy and the economy of the Maghreb and wider Arab world- and if you take the academics of the mosque at Timbiktu into account it also affected the intellectual life of North and West Africa and Islam in Africa too.

Combine that with roughly 200 years of expansion and an inherently fascinating fusion of native African and Islamic architecture and culture and I see plenty of reasons for Mali to be in.

The "no to south Pacific civs" was a sort of joke for people who have no idea about Mali, including the fact that it's in Africa. ('Cause it kinda sounds like it could be a south Pacific island. Mali sounds a lot like Bali... )
