If you only count professional games (games that takes at least a year to make), then it's more like 1% (if not less), while if we count all games that has ever been made it's probably closer to 10%...

Of course the number is just some "made up" number, I haven't actually searched for sources to support my claim
This space is empty... or is it?

I knew no one play PC game in my home town so that's why I'm play with A.I all myselt, poor me! : )
I think many users still are at 0.5-1 Mbps, so you having only 1 Mbps is probably not an issue for anthing. I'm sure they won't make MP require a T1 connetion. And as of SP requiring internet I see no reason for that either.

Why you wimp about a 1mbit connection? I have it and rocks! I can play FPS like a charm with a lag of 30 ms. And the patches are just 10/20 mb each, so you can download it in 1 minute or so.

Really high bandwith is needed for downloading big files, not playing games or even downloading patches or demos (almost all sites cap the DL stream to 60 kbytes/s).
              Owww, I'm so cute! ^_^

Especially since in multiplayer, the amount of data transmitted isn't too big, so 1 Mbit is not needed for that. With 1Mbit, you can transmit 128 KB data per second. That's a lot. I'm pretty sure there are no MP games that require such an amount of data transmission.

Not 1 mbit, it's 1 Mbps, even try download 5 MB patch, it's all the time "time-out" or "computer think it's done but it's not done" and for multiplayer, you maybe can join with one other player but no more than thats. Even Guild Wars have no problem with PvE, Role-player but lot of problem with PvP, since lot of player, you unable to Pvp, even you make it in but it's lag and casue your whole team to lose, If you need multiplayer and download big file at least 5 MB then you need Cable or High Bandwith , not 56 dail up, they only good at web and e-mail but that's it. Well it's wont work for me on internet. Just only E-mail and Web work for me on my computer gameing, not download at least 5 mb and Multiplayer since no cable in my hometown

Ohhh, i see Well, as you said, you will have to DL some patches in a separate computer. But i think that multiplayer will rock in cIV, so why dont you think in a connection upgrade?

Multiplayer is only as good as the players playing it. Now, if you play against Apolytoners, should be fun.

True, but multiplayer can be made much worse regardless of players if the engine does not support it well. As in Civ3, where MP is difficulty to get working at all (I never managed. ), and PBEMs "offer" numerous bugs and simply stupid game behaviour (like no battle animations for the attacked player). So, while not the most important thing, good multiplayer support is one of the most important issues when making CIV.

I trust Firaxis will make MP decent enough so that, at the very least, it works. Best case, it will actually be nice and easy to set up and play.

From the latest statement from Firaxis Marketing"

"Further, Civilization IV has been designed from the ground-up to deliver fantastic multiplayer gaming options"

"2005 will witness the release of Sid Meier's Civilization IV, the latest and coolest installment in the greatest strategy game series of all time. Civilization IV features breathtaking 3D graphics, cool reward movies, brilliant audio and music, and, most importantly, the best and most addictive gameplay of any strategy game ever created"

I'd say they are planning on a pretty good release for both the SP and MP communities, and an MP option that simply works for those of you that never got MP to work in C3C!

But hopefully SP will still be where the focus lies. Civ is a SP game, and so it should stay.
