  • Civilization IV Civs

Ok, so I'm sure someone's done this before, but I figure I'll give it another shot.

There are apparently only 16 civs, so some would have to be eliminated from this list. My guess is that the Incans and Mongols will get the axe.

    Americans
    Arabs
    Aztecs
    Babylonians
    Chinese
    Egyptians
    English
    French
    Germans
    Incans
    Indians
    Japanese
    Malinese
    Mongols
    Persians
    Romans
    Russians
    Spanish

However, we must all hope for the almost certain expansion packs!

    I would recommend:
    Greeks
    Assyrians
    Vikings
    Celts
    Turks
    Mayans
    Hebrews

Oh, heck. I'd recommend all the Civ3 civs plus more. This tentative Civ4 list is almost identical to the Civ3 list, with a change of only 4 civs or so. I just wish they could go for the many civ release, like in Civ2. I understand the difficulty for such complex coding in such a short time, but still...

    And no Greeks???

On the E3 interview Soren said it would be 18 civs.

      Really? Oh, better and better.

      Sheesh.

I still think the Greeks should be in. After all, Civ2 had 21 civs!

Check out the topped thread "What's in Civ4. Just the facts, ma'am (2nd edition)", there you'll find all we know of the game, including the list over confirmed civs.

Yes, I knew that was there. I intended this thread to be more commentary on the civs list than an attempt to determine what they were, swwing as how Locutus already has, as far as we can tell.

It's a shame... It was my favourite civ in both Civ1 and Civ2. And then they came dragging with that idiotic "Scandinavians" shiit...

Exactly. Start doing their UU graphics, and leader movies now. [/sarcasm]

To be fair, 18 civs is more than basic Civ3 had. It would (will) be fun to see more civs, but I think getting game mechanics done well is the most important thing. And the problem with more civs is, whatever number they would announce, people will still complain about some not being in (I mean, HEY, WHERE IS POLAND?!)...

Modo, if we use the C3C editor as an example, just use the links from another leader for the animations, and the animation for another unit for the UU. The stats are right there infromt of you to make up, but the only remaining problem is the pedia icons.

Of course, while C4 s going to be different from C3, the idea of copying from another civ for the animations should always hold possible...

Yeah, except the feeling is not the same anymore. The only time I played Poland (or against Poland) was after Polish fans made the UU and the leader animations. In my opinion, a civ is not complete without these "details".

But, like I said, I understand that making graphics costs money. I will rather have "only" 18 civs with a good game balance instead of 50 civs with a crappy game.

By the way, if one seriously wanted to drop one civ, it would be the Americans. Being 200 years old, they are not even an infant compared to all other choices. You could make them show up because of huge uprisings, but to allowing them to start in 4000 BC is a joke...

They weren't? I was so sure I played them there... Heh... Anyway, there was no "Scandinavians" either, I know that.

I agree 100% with that. All I meant was that it is a work around. I personally don't care what civs are in it, so long as it is balanced.

Though I do agree about the Americans...
