Ehhh... I highly doubt that... The most I have hopes for is some header files to define the APIs. I highliy doubt they will release actual source files.
Can you compile those into a DLL, as Soren specifically said?

Yeah. When you write your own code, all it needs is the header files to compile, and some binary files to link. It really doesn't need any of the actual source code of the game.
Is it me, or does that look like President Bush Sr. in the Buildings Civilopedia?
What building is it supposed to represent?
Any ideas?
Might be placeholder art. Could be something like the Pentagon or something.
Will it be impossible to play a peaceful game at Emperor and above like Civ3?
Will they release patches in a timely fashion?
Most important:
Will they balance the gameplay in time for the initial release or is the open source feature their way of leaving that up to the consumer?
This is most important because I dont care about modding the game. It takes too much time and effort. If I spend $50 for this game I expect that Firaxis has balanced the game properly.

Well, I suppose it all depends on how well the beta testers do their jobs, no?
I actually found one thing that I could really gripe about:
The diplo screen seems not to allow an "anykind of thing traded for any kind of thikg". For example, you can't buy resources with a tech, or with a lump sum.
I hope that my interpretation of the diplo screen is wrong. Maybe the more "exotic" options are hidden, for the player's convenience. If not, I would be very very sad. The "any kind of thing for any kind of thing" diplomacy is what made that part of the game so interesting in SMAC and Civ3.
"I have been reading up on the universe and have come to the conclusion that the universe is a good thing." -- Dissident "I never had the need to have a boner." -- Dissident "I have never cut off my penis when I was upset over a girl." -- Dis
Also, I don't see a way to do some type of "ALT-TAB" functionality to go look at the map or other information screens before you have to make a decision with Ghandi swaying around and gyrating right in front of you.

a) It's only concept art... unfortuantely
b) There *is* a serious undertone to that: Al Gore *was* very important to the development of the Internet. He didn't invent it of course, but you don't get a Webby Lifetime Achievement Award for making false claims...

Hmm... It would, indeed, appear that way from the video... When he selects a tech, only the lump sum payment and other techs and "declare war on..." options remain available. And when he selects Corn, only GPT and resources are avable for choosing... It would suck for them to limit us that way. Maybe you need some tech advance in order to try to trade goods for tech, for example? Or else maybe it depends on the nature of your relations with the other nation... Or your trading civic model thing...

The diplo model is indeed a lot like Civ3, only apparently more flexible, and without an advisor that tells you 100% accurately whether they'll take the deal .
On the downside, the leaders (Gandhi) at least seem to be WAY too cartoonish. Come on, the Civ3 leaders were cartoonish within reason, but this is straight out of a comic book.
It's all a matter of taste - Personally, I like the style...!
I am sure new modded heads will appear as the game is released & established on the web.
Yak, crappy questions those guys asked. If any of us starts to make questions to Soren, he would be in trouble
I LOVE the cute units and leaders!!! Awww, so cute how the troops fight and walk, like making little jumps... they are like dolls!
And BTW, i like the promoting system, i will be able to create special forces to senty in my borders! Perhaps another promotion would be the ability to prevent enemy units entering the adjacent squares of that unit.
