      In the planet view, notice:
1.) There is a clear way to see how far production and growth has come in the different cities.
2.) How the map resembles an improved Civ1 map.
3.) The polar caps seems to not be tiles, but rather overlays.
4.) Is it clouds(ie weather) we can see floating around on the map?
5.) What are those two black spots in the ocean(near the south pole and the middle of the map)?

          The graphics sure look sweat.
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

I didn't like this. I very much prefer the way it was done in Civ III, showing the actual number of turns needed for growth and production.

If this is the new way, then I'll be left thinking: "hmm, this blue bar is almost full, does this mean 1 turn or 2 turns to go?". Then I'll have to check the advisor (or chart, or whatever) to be sure.

I know these are beta screenshots, so I hope they'll rethink this new way to show production and growth.

                        Good article/interview.

The graphics on the screenshots look considerably better than what has been in magazine previews, so those were placeholders after all. On the Novgorod screenshot, it's probably zoomed in... at least I hope.

The planet screenshot looks good. An updated Civ1 map indeed . However, the orange progress bar which shows how close a city is to growing (best noticable on Moscow) should also have the exact number of turns, as that helps with planning.

Cities connected by a river are considered connected for trade purposes . In ancient times, obviously, rivers were of utmost importance trade wise, I'm glad they're adding that.

Able to ask one civ to go to war without being at war with the second one yourself - ( )^20

You can choose Quick, Normal, or Epic. Normal would be like a standard game of Civilization in previous versions. Quick and Epic are scaled in every aspect to provide the full experience of Civilization in either a quicker or much longer format.

No worries on the game being too fast paced. Besides, as Soren said here, custom paces are possible.

And great news about Soren working on the AI now. I want this game polished. I want Soren to have enough time to do whatever he wants with the AI, and then a good beta testing phase that would ensure the game has no horrendeous bugs when released.

                        Overall - a big, resounding .

I was annoyed that the interviewer brought up slavery, ideological wars, civil wars and epidemics, and Barry Caudill answered 3 of the 4, and not Civil Wars.
