I'm not being fair, since Civ can't possibly look as good as this. Being a strategic game at the grand scale, a close-up view like the one seen here would be pointless.

Different genres, too. RTS will always stay different from TBS, and at that, Age of Empires is even not among the strategically complex RTS games, such as RoN or EE2.

If you want great graphics but no content, play AoE.

If you want great, deep gameplay, play RoN or GalCiv or CtP2 or hopefully Civ4...

Edit: Solver sort of beat me to the point...

Mind you, I don't like RTS's in general. Except the Total War series, which is in part RTS. I bought Starcraft, AoE 1 and 2 and they were all boring imo. But you have to admit that AoE 3 is gorgeous!

It looks fantastic. But hey, if I want photorealistic graphics, I'll watch out the window -- that's some damn fine graphics right there

Gameplay makes or breaks a game. Graphics can only break it...

GalCiv, deep? Care to explain to me, then, why people stopped playing it after a couple of months it came out.

You would need some very expensive hardware to actually get it, I bet.

It is very simple. Compared to any RTS, even GalCiv is still a very complex game.

I meant people on 'poly, you tbs fundamentalist! AFAIK, 'poly isn't a RTS haven. When Galciv came out, everybody here talked about Galciv. Then people stopped playing it after a couple of months.

It is because the "S" part is usually missing in those games. (I am not hinting, I am telling.)

Maybe they found the game too easy (I know I did). Heck, MOO3 is easy too, but you can hardly call it simple...

For those who think graphics do not make the game - that is your opinion.

For many, graphics helps to make the game better, thats why companies continue to make games with better graphics.

And Civilization can have graphics like AoEIII, it's just that no one is daring to take up the challenge. This is something only Peter Molyneux would dare to do.

Also, I think those of you who don't find the look of graphics important, imagine playing Civilization in full text.

                              Good point Sn00py.

I wonder if we are looking at army groups versus single units in these graphics....could be cool.
                              Haven't been here for ages....

Could that be a tactical battle screenshot?
