I gotta say that I am really liking the graphics.
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

Cool! The trees look like "real" trees!

Also it's good to finally see that a unit has more than one person in it.

But lets face it that nothing really changed. The terrain is similar. The way the units seem to fall into combat also seems the same.

I hope the finished product will be more evolved.

I hope they make it so the mountains meld into mountain ranges if they're next to each other. Loads of single mountains doesn't look right...

It sounds worse and worse. Alright, I can hope that the moden graphics won't be a problem, but what's up with "faster paced gameplay"? Sounds like they're dumbing the game down and making it more mainstream, which basically was everyone's main complaint with Civ3. I'm trying to stay positive, but Civ4 sounds more and more like a EE2 style game intended for good multiplayer and relatively mainstream.

Well, faster paced game play could easily be done in some instances in ways that increase fun.

Allowing 100% of excess beakers to count towards the next tech would speed up the game by eleminating the slider tweaking.
The elimination of wack-a-mole polution should speed up the industrial and modern eras.
Eliminating the AI constant exploration along rails would speed up the AI turns during the industrial and modern era.

AI: I sure wish Jon would hurry up and complete his turn, he's been at it for over 1,200,000 milliseconds now.
