A mod's "significance" is relative to the player's feeling. This forum is not for "Mods that others will agree are important."

I share nbarclay's desire to rename the religions, because I like for my game to be generic, and I also share his desire:

So I appreciate your answer, Locutus:

    • I would actually like to mode the game to make religion less abstract. Not in the sense of "this one is right and the rest are wrong". However, religion has had a significant effect on human culture, and they don't all have interchangable effects. They also arise out of culture, to a great extent. At any rate, religion and culture are entertwined.

I think the Paradox EU games have the right approach to religion in this type of game. I'd like to mod CivIV in that direction, which would be more challenging than the mod originally discussed in this thread.

I think this is about the most inside out way of describing faith I've ever heard, And nobody makes the argument logic can justify faith. And people of faith are not mindless zombies. Those coolaid drinking cult followers, there is a big differance. So lets just face it religion is in the game if you can use it to your advantage than do so, if not than don't do so...God bless all

          • What I am missing in the game ist the possibility to "extinct" religions in the game.
This may sound a bit extreme, but progromes, forced conversions, heretic hunts and christian persecution have always been a part of human history and should - in my eyes - not be ignored in a historical game like this. Of course, from the momentary point of the rules this possibility would make no sense, als religions bring only advantages. The incorporation of religious persecution would require a change in the religious ruleset, maybe especially for the "Theocracy" civic, under which governmental form persecutions were - naturally - most frequent.

Just an inspirational idea for all modders out there.

And don't take these things too serious. It's a game, after all. It's also unethical to use nuclear weapons, but it's fun - in the game.

            • Wow. Nathan sure took a lot of **** for this thread.

I think most (all?) of it was unjustified. And I'm an atheist.

              • Actually, I'd like to mod the game to make religion mor realistic, with inquisitions and holy wars and religious oppression, etc. Fun times
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

                • I'm offended by the fact that America is in this game. So I'm going to mod it so it doesn't exist.....

                  ...I mean really.....

                  /sigh....

this is why aliens watch us and laugh....

I know because I get abducted regularly and right before they "probe" me they yell "this is for American Idol!" and then slam it in hard.

As a Yankee, I don't feel at all comfortable with a nation populated by moronic Southerners. Because of this, I'm seriously considering advocating another Civil War and removing them from the EARTH.

If you're really that uncomfortable with the existence of filthy heathens in a VIDEO GAME, maybe you should go back to drinkin' moonshine and runnin' barefoot through the woods instead of clogging up the Internets with your nonsense.

you're being a bit hard, i think it's obvious that you are joking with your "annihilate the south" calls, but still many may feel offended.

besides, you cannot generalise. there are religious fanatics all over the world (also in northern yankeestan) as well as openminded people in religious-conservative places.

the answer is simple and should be like in violent movies and on erotic/porn sites:
if you feel offended by anything within this game/film/song/website, then bloody hell don't consume it!

we keep having the same (simpleminded) comments for the civilization series:
                      - "stalin shouldn't be in because he was an evil massmurdering bastard" (though genghis comes in and noone complains) --> well, then don't play with him
                      - "america shouldn't be in because they are no historic civ" --> tough luck, the majority thinks the single most powerful nation of the last 90 years should be included.
                      - "i don't want to have to play where spreading the [jesus-killing jëws|pig eating chrïstians|terrörist muslïms|heathen xyz] might be necessary for winning" --> go play something non-offensive like tetris. oh no! wait! tetris was developed by an "evil commie"...

oooff... sorry about my rant... but ignorance and closed-mindedness makes me uptight and agry

                      • Actually I wasn't joking. I'm from New York and I HATE the South. Granted there are a few good people down there, like one of the teachers I work with from Texas, but they're a small minority. He hates his own people too. I hate their culture and their politics, and their election stealing Idiot-in-Chief. I hate them for destroying the reputation of America across the globe and constantly spewing their religious bs. But most of all, I hate them for their 'Power of Pride' bumper stickers! THEY didn't get attacked, NY did! Spare me your crocodile tears and knock off your inflamitory foreign policies before we get bombed again! This may not be the right forum for this, but I got upset when I was reading some of the other people's responses to this idiot's thread. This guy is a perfect example of why the rest of the world hates us and perceives us as morons.

                        • ok, you'll probably have to keep it down a bit or you're in danger of being banned by a moderator.

without wanting to go too much off topic, i just want to add that it's true that GWB made the image of the US in europe even worse than it was before. but before him his father, raegan, nixon, carter, etc did not do the best job either in making the world appreciate the US.
on the other hand clinton was very highly respected - at least here in western/central europe. and noteably he was a southerner from one of the most *bleep* states of all..

anyhow back on topic: religion in civ4 is well implemented, though it does favour the ancient religions a bit much from gaming perspective. the choice of religions can easily be replaced so there's no reason for whining about better or worse selections...

Also, Jedism would be good since they have magical powers too.
