We could discuss other ways that these freedoms can be withdrawn without slavery being involved, but that would threadjack the threadjack somewhat. In Civ 3 the distinction is made in terms of upkeep. The point I wished to respectfully make to Nathan is that he claimed that the game made no distiction between Slaves and Workers, but in fact the Slaves in the game do not get paid so we can assume they have a worse life somehow than the Workers.

I don't often post but this is a doozy.
Firaxis are SO brave to include religion because of issues like this. Whilst I respect the original poster's right to have religious belief's as much as I respect the atheist posters right to not have religious beliefs, it occurs to me that THIS IS A GAME. Not real life.
One of the things that stood out to me when I looked at Solver's preview was the screenshot on religion. The founding city for Islam was Madrid and the founding city for Buddhism was Canterbury (or something similar). This to me is VERY cool and offers a new take on history, but, again, IT'S JUST A GAME. A bit of fun.
Wow. I'm amazed that Nathan, one of the all-time great Civ 3 players has overlooked the key distinction between workers and slaves in both Civ 3 and Real Life.
Ahem.
Do you pay them?
If they want to be paid like regular workers, all they have to do is work just as hard. As it is, they do enough work to earn their room and board, but not enough to earn the pay domestic workers get.
c'mon, I'm a christian myself and I concider myself to be very serious on it, but this is a game.
As a christian I think it's wrong to wage wars as well and to put pressure on my opponent to do certain things.
I don't agree with using nuclear weapons.
But it's a game. It's not real.
Just play it as it is, you're not spreading the islam faith over real people but just over bits and bites

i just saw the full video when you start a new game and i am surprised we have not yet heard stuff like
"we expect that besides the theory of evolution you also teach that the earth was created in a week and the 4000BC is actually day 8"
- Artificial Intelligence usually beats real stupidity
- Atheism is a nonprophet organization.
The religion info is in XML/GameInfo/CIV4ReligionInfo.xml. If you just want to rename stuff without changing anything else, all in-game text is in the folder XML/Text.
This is ridiculous. Nbarclay, I am an atheist, and believe that you are wasting your time and your life with this supersititous religious stuff.
Nevertheless, your requests are quite reasonable, and it seems that a lot of small-minded people have had their own worldviews threatened by you. Personally, I modified the colors of some of the civs (and the barbarians,) simply b/c I liked England to be dark red, Japanese to be dark yellow, Barbarians to be White and Germans to be Black. Your tastes may differ.
I suggest that "Apolytonites" and "Civfanaticans" might be two additional replacement religions.
"The nation that controls magnesium controls the universe."
Removing the religions as a partial mod seems very strange to me. Everything else would be "earth-like" except for some made up religion names. Whatever makes people happy...
Anyway, just got the game today. It's fun! Definite learning curve.... however, like any true IT person and/or gamer, I refuse to read the manual
