If they're repeat offenders then they'll usually go to jail but if it is a first offense not really. BTW to be a felony you have to have property damage in excess of a certain amount and/or personal injury.

I recall a case of a Florida teen who was the son of wealthy East African immigrants who killed someone with his expensive sports car. I was trying to remember if he got off for it or if he was charged and convicted but I can't find the case online.

Wrong. 4th Offense OWI is a felony in Wisconsin, regardless of whether or not you damaged any property or hurt someone.

Texas is a **** stain full of racists.
Tell that to the victim's family. You hit someone? You take the responsibility. Don't want the responsibility, don't assault people.

being rich means you get different justice to being poor.
So you're saying we should treat people exactly the same irrespective of their wealth? That would mean ditching redistributive taxes.

Funny how people whine about 'unfair outcomes' and yet are the same ones pushing for them in the first place.

I'd love to hear you say that to the Jennings, Boyle and Mitchell families.

Do you know the story why the four pedestrians were so close to each other? Brian Jennings, a youth pastor, and Hollie and Shelby Boyles were Good Samaritans who stopped to help Breanna Mitchell with her flat tire.

Seriously? People are clearly talking about equality and fairness in the legal outcomes of criminal proceedings, and you are trying to connect that to tax policy?

What's that? "No, I don't believe everyone should be treated equally, rich people should pay more!"

The same people crying foul over the 'privileges of the rich' are the same socialists clamoring for the courts to strip away their private property. Odd that.

I'm all for a fair system. Treat everyone exactly the same. Should wealthy people go to jail for paying the same amount as someone poorer?

So you're going with "I am totally hopeless."

Fair enough; it's what most here think of you anyway.

Not sure how locking the kid up for years would have helped anyone, it wouldn't have made the families of the victims any better no matter what they might think.

The problem is that the expensive rehab isn't an option for every defendant.
If California rehabilitation spas are so much more effective at preventing recidivism then I suggest that 'Ritchie Rich's' parents be made to pay for 10 poor convicts to be given a chance there and let their son learn his lesson in prison.

I wasn't aware that running over people was an alternate means of paying taxes.

I find it curious that socialists are egalitarian when it's convenient, but they don't really believe that the law should be blind to wealth.
