Rich kid kills 4 pedestrians while driving drunk, gets probation.
The same judge put a 14-year-old black kid in jail for 10 years after he punched someone (with no intent to kill) and the victim died after hitting his head on the ground.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

This is what happens when we absolve criminals of individual responsibility and instead blame social externalities such as socio-economic status, culture, the media, and upbringing while forgoing the usual double standard that permits these considerations when the offender is poor or in some other way marginalized but not when the offender is from a background of privilege.
This is the logical end-result of what the liberal criminal justice system desires.
No, this is just the rich getting treated better than everyone else as usual.
Funny how often young black kids seem to get 'charged as adults' (one of the most repulsive and revolting American ideas ever), yet young rich white kids seem to get free passes.
Really? Treating a 16-year-old like an adult is up there with owning slaves and massacring natives?

16? How about incarcerating a 13 year old to spend the rest of their life in prison? Yeah, I'd say that's stepping into some pretty ****ing horrible moral territory.
Either you decide that kids are fully responsible for their actions or you don't. If you do, then it is utterly vile to then turn around and conveniently sweep that aside, because the crime was horrid and people want their revenge fix.

That's illogical. People don't suddenly become responsible on a certain birthday so why should the law operate based on the fiction that they do?
Find an example of a black 16 year old who kills someone via DUI that matches your claim and get back to us.

What do you feel is the correct solution to a situation such as this.
We had a very similar case (James Bulger) years back. Despite the normal shouts from the public for them to be dragged through the streets and hung or locked up for life, they were detained at a youth facility and underwent constant psychological evaluation. They were released after about 8-10 years on lifelong license with new identities. It's not something that feels satisfying for anyone (especially as one of them allegedly re-offended years later), but I don't see what else you can really do when it's kids involved.
I think that's a very intelligent and well thought out sentence from the judge, combining punishment with an attempt to help the kid recover and get his life back.
Not sure how locking the kid up for years would have helped anyone, it wouldn't have made the families of the victims any better no matter what they might think.
The problem is that the expensive rehab isn't an option for every defendant.

Jon Miller: MikeH is a shockingly revolting dolt and a masturbatory urine-reeking sideshow freak whose word is as valuable as an aging cow paddy. We've got both kinds

That's the power of a really expensive lawyer who can drag things out and challenge everything. The prosecution and the courts tend to have extremely heavy case loads and limited budgets so they have to pick their battles so if you're a borderline case but you have the cash to drive up the expenses the court/prosecution might just decide it has bigger fish to fry.
Really. I know a guy that killed one pedestrian and hurt another. He's doing about 20 years.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.
