I'm still not understanding the relevance of comparing British murder rates to Fairfax, VA murder rates. I get that someone said HC lives in a murderous hellhole which is obviously not true but the point that we have much higher murder rates in the US than in Britain is very much true.

Philly's was 27 per 100,000 people a few years back but is down to 19.6 as of 2010.

New Orleans' is 49.1 per 100K

Obviously, what constitutes murder varies between countries but according to this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._homicide_rate) the global rate is 7.6 per 100K.

So NOLA has almost 6.5x the global rate. That's really bad.

    Our national average is 4.8

Well. reggy are a patent idiot if he thinks that some paintball game has any resemblance with real gunfight

No, a paintball game is nothing like a gunfight, but the mechanical aspect of aiming a paintball gun at someone at point blank range isn't different from aiming a gun, except that aiming a gun is easier.

The -ize vs. -ise thing isn't a question of British vs. American, like color and colour. In the latter case, both can be correct, but in the former case, only -ize is correct. -ise is a deviation of British English from after American and British spellings diverged.

So, initially I meant this as a 'remember the dead' thread.

The reason I started it - Thursday night I was at a live theatre production. The theatre was in a complex with a movie theatre. There was a long line up of people, families, friends, some in costumes, some had been waiting there for hours to be the 'first in line' to see the new movie. I left the theatre around 11:30 as people were being left in - I assume the theatre was packed.

A couple of hours after I got home, I noticed the story on the net. It really hit me hard. I actually cried, something I rarely do.

I am pleased the media is memoralizing the victims and ignoring the piece of **** who did this.

I guess you Americans need your guns. Good luck with that.

Ending is predictable, the characters (particularly Catwoman and Batman) appear to act randomly and without regard for what happened 20 minutes prior, too many cliches to mention. Just not a good film.

Hopefully Nolan does not get to direct any more of this and can return to being a real filmmaker. This was not near the quality of the dark knight.

I'm against gun control for purely logistical reasons (ie, it ain't ever gonna happen, ever ever ever), but it clear from a statistical standpoint that guns are more likely to used, either intentionally or by accident, on oneself or other household members, than they are against any sort of home invaders or attackers.
