I want to learn about FF

And that other thread seems like for experts.

I just did a draft, I picked some people I know (I haven't watched for a few years), and then picked some (a lot) randoms.

    My Offense:
    Randy Moss
    Payton Manning
    Terrel Ownens
    Santana Moss
    Clinton Portis
    Ronnie Brown

    Bench:
    Matt Cassel
    DeSean Jackson
    Anthony Gonzalez
    Vsianthe Shiancoe
    Beanie Wells

    Kickers:
    Ryan Longwell

    Bench:
    Jason Elam

    Defense:
    Tennessee
    (No bench)

Now what do I do? I see that Anothony was actually injured so maybe I was stupid there.

What kind of league is this? How many teams?

-Anthony is out for about 2 months.
-Backup kickers are a wasted roster spot
-No starting tight end in this league??

Try upgrade your roster by dropping unneeded guys and picking up free agents who are better. Do this continuously as the season progresses. Rookies studs will become apparent, people will get injured, etc. etc.

Now you just set your lineup each week and check the results. Some guys will be in your lineup every week, others will get in based on matchups (starting RB facing a tough run defense, backup playing vs a weak defense, etc). There are plenty of websites offering free weekly rankings. Similarly, many sites have archived primers for beginners.

Do you have specific questions? We have plenty of self-styled experts experienced players here who will tell you how to run your team kindly assist you.

I had a starting TE, I might not have written him down (I was on a very small screen). I think there are 8 or so teams? This is Yahoo btw.

So for a question, do I kick Anthony, despite just getting him?

I actually tried to pick BR so that I could always have everyone (but my Defense) in play every game (unless people were injured).

I would kick Anthony simply because he will be gone 8 weeks. Fantasy football season is usually only 13 weeks long.

AG is a young WR, who was looking for a breakout year this year, and it is unlikely he will perform well even after he gets back, assuming he's back when he is supposed to be.

You can use the slot to select someone who can help you right now.

You look pretty solid at WR, you should pick up a RB.

Dump the backup kicker. Pull up another WR and RB.

Also... you haven't mentioned the scoring system your league uses. In some leauges, the points favor QB's, or RB's, or even wide receivers. It's important the you mold your team to take advantage of rules/scoring system.
It's hard to give specific advice without knowing exactly how your scoring system works

I am not really sure how the scoring system works myself. I Do know that while I was picking my first two picks of QB and WR, everyone else was picking RBs.

That's because RBs are a scarce commodity. You need to start two and there are only 32 teams, and those teams have one starter who gets the majority of the carries and the Top 10-12 are far better than those lower than that.

Moss and Manning are pretty much the cream of the crop. Portis and Ronnie Brown are not bad at all.

Go to the league home page (the page that shows the standings) and look on the main menu bar and roll over the League button/tab. Select the bottom option "scoring and settings". This will show you the point system and the settings of your league.

You may also want to swap Cassell with someone else as a backup QB, or take another player altogether as Manning has been for the most part indestructable.

From the looks of your settings, it is set up for RB's, and would explain why everybody was going after RB's.

Keep an eye out during Sunday and see if any RB's get injured, and then jump on line quickly and see if their backup is available. It's always nice when you can "vulture" a RB like that.

Also if you can find a starter that loses his goalline role, that can be helpful.

My plan for Cassel was just for the time when Manning wasn't playing. Is he a bad QB? Why are you suggesting changing him for another QB?

I don't know what you mean by starter that loses his goalline role.

Can someone give me a list of RBs to look for. Maybe a list of WR too. I will be dropping the two named people (Kicker + WR) and picking up two more.

I don't really know names/etc of anyone who started being good after 2004 or so.

As Jr asked earlier, how many teams on in the league. If it's a large league (12 or 14 teams) most of the good players are probably already on some bodies team as back ups. If it's an 8 or 10 team league, there are probably tons of good players on the waiver wire. It's hard to make any suggestions considering I would probably give you a list of people already taken

8ish teams, I bet for everything other than RB there are tons of good players available.

his is Yahoo, there was some sort of ranking in the draft, for the most part people just took the highest people to draft (I didn't in general, maybe I wasn't smart).

He's injured. I don't see much use in keeping injured backups. Injured starters, sure.

I don't know what you mean by starter that loses his goalline role.
It's all about the TDs, baby. I have a goaline RB, who gets the TDs and earns me enough points to be useful.

Can someone give me a list of RBs to look for. Maybe a list of WR too. I will be dropping the two named people (Kicker + WR) and picking up two more.

With 8 teams, you may be able to get some pretty sporty real-life backup RBs who still figure regularly into the offensive plans. Darren Sproles is likely gone, if he wasn't drafted, due to Tomlinson's injury, but if he's out there grab him. Leon Washington is another one in that mold. Also, look to see who others are dropping. Some owners will panic after a bad game, especially the first week, and get rid of a guy who can serve you well the rest of the way. Happened in my league with DeAngelo Williams last year.

Looking at your roster, I might clear out my entire bench except Wells and Jackson, and replace them with RBs who may pan out. It's a numbers game there, but it can hit really big (see Matt Forte last year and Adrian Peterson his rookie year, or Larry Johnson the year he took over for Priest Holmes). What you want to look for is a, generally young, talented backup on a productive offense where the starter is aging (30+) or injury-prone. You'll need a QB for Manning's bye in Week 6, but you can probably pick up a guy to fill in when that arrives. I don't really like DeSean Jackson with McNabb out, but he's good enough for spot duty when your other WRs have bye weeks. Note that both Mosses are off in Week 8, so you'll need to make a move then to fill out your roster (unless the third WR spot is actually a flex position, where you can start either a WR or RB). Aside from those two considerations, your bench needs to be a RB lotto board until you get hit by an injury to a starter.

Nothing wrong with Cassel as a one-week fill-in. He's on a bad team, but they will throw a lot, which means more points. He's dinged up now, but will be back at full strength in another week.

If someone like Hasselbeck or Flacco is still sitting there, it would likely be an upgrade. This is not critical until you get to Peyton's bye week.

Can't argue in favour of Sproles, based on those stats listed. He's good at all purpose yards, terrible at straight rushing yards and TDs. He might get you one or two TDs in a year based on the return, but that's hit and miss.

    Available:
    Derrick Ward
    Jonathan Stewart
    Marshawn Lynch
    LenDale White
    Larry Johnson
    Leon Washington
    Ricky Williams

    I got Darren Sproles.

    Available:
    Derrick Mason
    Michael Crabtree
    Devin Hester
    Earl Bennett
    Justin Gage

I am thinking that I will get at least one more RB and one more WR.

Jon, your league only gives you points based on yardage and TDs.

    QBs, go for Hasselbeck.

RBs, Leon Washington's probably your best bet, but scoop up as many as you can get. Derrick Ward is way better for you than Sproles.

It's not the best format for Sproles, but it's not bad. Remember that receiving yards count the same as straight rushing yards, so what actually matters is yards from scrimmage and TDs. Rivers leaned on him fairly heavily in the passing game Monday, and even with Tomlinson healthy, Sproles gets touches. With LT dinged, he can be expected to get more over the next few weeks. And while touchdowns are somewhat fluky, he had six from scrimmage last year. That's serviceable for what he is: a free agent pickup for depth. Of course, there's also a decent possibility of him having one game somewhere during the year where he explodes. If that happens, he becomes immediate trade bait.
