    I have a couple:

    Rebellion
    Emperor of the Fading Suns

PS I got EFS after reading the relentless WORD OF MOUTH buzz on Usenet. And have enjoyed it and it's mods immensely. Rebellion was more mixed, but generally loved.

      Rebellion has an unworkable interface.

      EoFS is pure class though.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Stars! How could I forget it! Blows away any other in the genre for gameplay...

I was also amazed he cited Rebellion...

ALthough, the RedEd program allows you to make the game MUCH more playable by shortening production times and increasing ship hyperpace speeds.

The interface problem is, however, unfixable.

OK, if we accept that Stars!, EoFS & MoO2 are better, then MoO3 is still the 4th best space TBS. That's not so bad, considering how much schrott is on the market.

Without patches and mods I don't think they were better. If you're going to discuss post-patch and mod-packed Stars and EoFS then by rights you have to allow MoO3 time to patch and mod itself for comparison.

Personally I don't like Stars even after its patches and aggression mods because you have to micromanage it all. MoO3 starts to shine where Stars starts to really grate: big empires. If you never went beyond turn 100 then I'd agree Stars was better

As far as I rememer EoFS has very stupid AI.

                    P.S.
Of course it's much better if you play it with mods or by PBEM only.

Honestly, I think it's a problem when you have to work hard to finally start to enjoy a game. I've been through about ten full games already, and I'm still honestly not having that much fun.

By the tenth game of Civ3, I'd stopped hating the changes so much (unless I found out that I didn't have coal and aluminum on my home continent).

I don't mind macromanagement all that much. But really, Moo3 makes it very hard for me to figure out if my changes really are affecting anything.

Ten games, and Moo3 just isn't all that fun. Entertaining, yes, but it's not going to stay on my hard drive as long as Moo2, Civ2, SMAC/X, or CTP2 did. Probably not even half as long.

I think it's more an acquired taste.

Yes I know how you feel, I dont play MOO3 now at all, I did at first, but I have no urge or drive to play it, I am not addicted to it as I was with Civ3, and I played that for a long time and still do from time to time when I have the time. MOO3 just should not have been made.
