    Reach for the porno?

Well, I just bought Reach For The stars yesterday as a fill-in until MOO 3 comes along. I managed to beat the price down to below half.

First impressions: It's a bit disappointing. However, the add-ons with the 1.2 beta make it more playable. Giving the next tech era a high multiplier (upto 5) could help. Also, you can edit the tech tree and create your own if you are disatisifed with it. Also there is a certain randomness to the tech tree. There is also now the option to be able to detect enemy ships which increases in ability with higher tech levels.

What I wanted to do was find a fan site with new tech trees, scenarions etc but every link seems to go nowhere except the official SSI one which (you won't believe this) goes to a porno site! What the hey is up with that?

Spellcross is a TBS battle game a bit like like UFO rather than a space game. I did thoroughly enjoy the modern military vs the army of darkness plot. If you can find an abandonware copy, check it out.

I don't think that there's much material on the web supporting RftS. It sank like a lead balloon and the few fan sites I found died out very quickly.

Seen some good suggestions here so far.. just one to add.

I am a huge fan of a free Rogulike called Nethack. It's got a lot going for it, such as thirteen character classes, extreme difficulty and depth of gameplay. Think diablo on steroids.

you can pick it up for free at www.nethack.org

If you've played it and beaten it (no savescumming) I have one thing to respond with:

Speaking of Age of Wonders 2, is the first one any good??
I have it lying around her somewhere, and I want to know if its worth my precious limited gaming time.

Up to a point. It was mighty good as long as you were still learning, but eventually becase way to easy.

It was possible in AoW1 to build superheroes. In every other respect I preferred AoW1 to AoW2 since there was less tedium.

I really enjoyed AoW, but AoW2 has been less fun. I played maps from the web on AoW, but I have not even started the second campaign in AoW2. I have had it since it came out.
