It's been a solid year since I played ME, forgot just how ****ing great this game is. Other than the repetitive side missions and inexplicable scan for these resources/artifacts stuff, this really is as close to perfect as games get.

Just saw one of the character videos for ME2, for Tali. Didn't use her at all this playthrough, as I was an engineer. But, goddamn, the video is awesome. Looks like we're gonna visit the Flotilla, which was a very interesting story in the original game. Also: Shohreh Aghdashloo! The best voice cast in gaming just got even better.

      • I got mass effect as part of a rental package. It definately massaged by sci fi receptors. but after siting through acres of text and exploring the space station I was unleashed into the universe to find a bunch of planets I couldnt land on. I ended up on one which had a crashed buggy or something, and another where I got stuck behind a wall built by the bad guys. I sent it back after that.

A lot of people say its good! I guess I must have missed that bit. Would be willing to try again if someone could tell me where I was going wrong.

But then I got some twisted masochistic enjoyment out of too human so wtf do I know

In MW2 news free for all has some of the bigger maps on rotation now. Also I have observed a noticable dickhead curve between the different game modes. Most objective based modes have people ignoring the objective, and search and destroy being full of nobends. a shame really as 1 life per round is a good challenge.

        • The main story in Mass Effect was great. The side missions were admittedly pretty dull for the most part. If you play again just stick to the main path.

That said, if you didn't like the first set of missions/story on the station, then maybe it isn't your game.

            • I just beat this on Veteran. I'd heard from friends it was much easier than World at War, and boy, was it ever.

I can see why DrSpike was a coward and didn't play WaW. This was a cakewalk by comparison.

World at War on Veteran was just stupid. Turn a corner and you have 6 grenades thrown at you from 6 different guys who endlessly respawn until you triggered a certain point. Holy **** was it infuriating.

As a side note, I'd have given CoD:MW2 an 85% or so until I got to the last level. Holy **** was that a dumb idea, terrible implementation, and needlessly frustrating on Veteran difficulty. "So we've got an electrifying FPS on our hand here -- how should we send the game off? How about racing ****ing rubber dinghies? SOLD!".

Jesus Christ. I'd give it an 80% or so based on the single-player campaign. Solid, predictable, short.

              • Multiplayer, Asher. Seriously, the single player is not what the game is about. There are much better single player games out there, but the mp is addictive.

                • I can't stand CoD MP. Won't play it.

Especially on Xbox Live. What's the point? The people are insufferable, the game is stale. What's the point -- level up and get more perks to get an edge to further level up and get more perks?

Just not for me. Way too many real games to play on my list to spend time playing the same levels over and over again with "leet skilled" 13 year old boys who call everyone a *** before, during, and after killing them.

                  • To be honest I even played just a handful of the special ops just now. They seem alright but I think I'm just tired of the game already after the short single-player. It's all the same.

MP is really the same thing with the added leveling mechanic which I'm not interested in either.

Bottom line is this is certainly no GOTY.

I'm actually surprised to see this. Even though veteran isn't as hard as some of the earlier games (2 was the worst, but 4 had some near impossible missions like one shot one kill) it's still tricky in places. Well done for achieving something beyond blowing through the game on easy. I hope we'll see more of that now.

I totally agree with this. By itself the SP is worth playing but no great shakes. The game comes alive in MP and that is the basis on which this game was a strong GOTY contender, and won shooter of the year.

Yeah it's hard early on Asher, and you will get killed by all the 13 year olds. But if you've any skill you should be able to turn the tables pretty quickly.

I think that now you've done veteran you should stop dodging the competition and actually give it a go, so that you can form an evidence based view. What are you scared of?

                          • CoD4 MP is designed for those 13-year old noobs Asher is referring to. There's no competitive edge to the game, and it relies too much on camping, airstrikes and other features that basically kill the fun of using skill and strategy (because you don't need it to win a game).

I expect MW2 to be more of the same.

Not scared of anything. It's a matter of balancing my free time with other games I have to play. Considering I'm already bored of the COD game mechanics (can't bring myself to play any more special ops even though they were kinda fun), I've decided to move on to other games. Forza is next on my list for the 360.

I bought a ton of games recently for the PC (Steam sales FTW) also. Just too many games to play, not enough time. The CoD MP experience I've had in the past was so terrible that I don't ever want to repeat it. And it has nothing to do with skill, and everything to do with the people you have to play against.

I'm starting a new MMORPG (well, the beta) in a few days also. That's a timesuck.

This is not the first game I've beaten on Veteran. The comment is a bit rich as I see you didn't beat CoD:WaW on veteran, while I have...and that was a far trickier game to beat on veteran. And much longer.
