The levelling system is light years ahead of Oblivion, and there's no stupid point management you have to go through every level to detract from immersion. The dialogue is better, the quests are better, and the combat is better. Overall it is much better.

I think you're mad because the simple villagers of Megaton saw you for what you really are.
The fact that under an hour into the game I ran into a game-breaking bug that forces me to replay 30 minutes of the game is certainly a reasonable strike against it.

I'll get to it sometime in Jan or Feb, and by then hopefully the most egregious bugs are fixed. But there's a reason Fallout 3 isn't at the top of most GOTY lists.

You'll know not to steal indiscriminately next time wont you.

And actually Fallout 3 is doing pretty well in GOTY lists, with more I'm sure to come. And even if it wasn't that doesn't imply your earlier statement.

You can continue making pathetic excuses for the game's bugs, or you can man up and admit they are pretty bad bugs. Which is it, British or Manliness?

If I recall correctly, the bug you're bothered by was the way that Megaton's residents responded to you stealing and then defending yourself.

Well, it's not a bug. If you read the manual, you'll see how the game handles theft and fights with townspeople. It's a design decision, it makes sense in terms of the setting (wild west justice), but you didn't think it was fun. That's just a matter of taste, not a bug.

There are plenty of bugs in Fallout without imagining ones that don't exist.

I think you should man up and admit you've dismissed one of the best games of the year because your poor judgement led to you being killed.

              The bugs were:
              - it wasn't autosaving correct
              - after I was killed by Megaton residents, it would respawn me in the middle of town where they would instantly kill me again. and again. and again. in an infinite loop.

If this is by design, then the game instantly disqualifies itself from GOTY.

If I was killed, that's fine. It stuck me in an infinite loop of being killed, and on top of its failure to autosave like how I've read it's supposed to, I had to re-play 30 minutes of it.

As I said, that's either a bad bug or a terrible design decision. Take your pick, either way it's no GOTY.

Never had a problem with the autosaving, and I'm not a dumbass who steals when he oughtn't (though I did have to reload at around the same time because I killed the overseer, which pissed off my friend who I didn't want to piss off).

You seem to have a lot of problems with games that many others don't seem to ... ever considered user error?

Also, I at one point got myself considered the enemy of all Megaton (by accidentally hitting a good guy while killing the bad guy who wants you to nuke things). I never ended up in any sort of infinite loop ... this was level 3 or so, by the way, so I wasn't particularly high up. Heck, only the merc actually caused me any real problem... the rest of the citizens didn't bother me.

Not everyone thinks and acts the same way like a clone army.

A clone army of Fallout players... nice ...

My GOTY is probably Mass Effect, which I enjoyed enough to mostly play through twice (when I upgraded to Vista I didn't bother reinstalling it, but I was a good bit of the way through the second playthrough). World of Goo gets my second pick, and third is probably Fallout 3.

Mass Effect came out in 2007 for most of us...the fact that PC-only gamers are behind the curve doesn't mean it can be GOTY this year too.

I'm a PC player, so it's PC GOTY for me.

But Mass Effect can sure as hell be PC GOTY. And hey, everyone said that the PC version seems to be an improvement over the console versions. Not that it's a big surprise

I'm getting more and more curious about Left 4 Dead, it's everywhere. I'm not really into zombies or most online FPS games, on the other hand, I like Valve's games...

While it is technically an FPS, the gameplay is very different from other FPS games. It's genuinely cooperative and just plain fun, it's not at all about headshots and kill ratio.
