Glad that you agree LBP is a truly innovative game on a console, a game that calls into question your usual statements about consoles. We're really making progress here.

But as usual you mischaracterise the baseline as well. Without really trying here are some highly rated non-FPS games, many of which do not have highly rated counterparts on the PC.

Sports - this years EA releases have gone down surprisingly well for instance, all with high scores at metacritic.

    Tiger Woods 09
    Fifa 09
    NHL 09
    Madden 09

RPG - a growing group of solid games, to name a few:

    Lost Odyssey
    Mass Effect
    Tales of Vesperia

    Fighting games:
    Virtua Fighter 5
    Soul Calibur 4

    Arcade games
    Braid, very innovative
Geometry Wars, for a new take on old school arcade shooter
Portal - very innovative and also released with Orange Box.
Lots of remakes of arcade classics

    Driving games
Forza 2 - best driving game ever on any format, with infinite replayability
    Grid
    PGR4

    Rhythm games
    Rock Band 1 & 2
Guitar Hero 2, 3 and Aerosmith

    Free-form games
GTA4, rated as best game ever. I don't agree but it's damn good and very innovative.
    Saints Row 1 & 2
    Crackdown

And then, though you class all FPS as one genre, there are story driven FPS games like BioShock, tactical games like Rainbox Six and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warrior, there's Gears of War as a third person game with innovative cover & movement mechanics, large scale war like Call of Duty series, all alongside your 'standard' shooters (some of which are very good, like Halo and Half-life etc). All these games play very differently.

So basically there's something for everyone. The sooner you accept this fact the easier things will be.

LONDON, England (CNN) -- The release of one of the most hotly-awaited computer games in the past year has been delayed over concerns some of the background music may offend Muslims.

"LittleBigPlanet" has been delayed due to background music that Muslims may find offensive.

"LittleBigPlanet," described by review Web site IGN.com as an "instant classic" has been pulled from warehouses after it was noticed that one of its music tracks contained words from the Islamic holy text, the Quran.

The move is a blow to the Sony Playstation game, seen as the console's first launch of an icon to match Nintendo's ubiquitous Mario, in which rag doll character Sackboy negotiates a lavishly designed world of platforms and challenges.

"We're sure that most of you have heard by now that one of the background music tracks that was licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Quran," a statement on the game's Web site said.

"We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologize for any offense this may have caused."

It said the game, initially due for release earlier in the month, will now begin shipping in North America in the week of October 27.

A statement on the Web site of Media Molecue, the game's UK-based developer, said the company was "shellshocked and gutted," by the delay.

"At MM we were as shocked and dismayed by this as anyone," it said.

We rented this over the weekend.

The kids have been playing the hell out of it, I haven't finished the tutorial (which is several levels long) so, I have yet to unlock this portion, and the kids don't have PSN accounts, cause I'm evil and mean.

Presentation is superb in the game, but I'm basically seeing a rather stereotypical platformer otherwise. My oldest hasn't unlocked all the 'build your own world' stuff yet, but from what I've seen it looks to be as time consuming as I would have thought.

I MIGHT get around to previewing some of the downloadable stuff, but it's not a priority.

                  Whoopie doo!

Tiger Woods 09 has been better in the past as a challanging game of golf(and the really old golf series like Links and PGA tour offer far more playing options/challanges etc - all on PC or old generation console)

Fifa 09 - well i do love football, but if i want action i think there are better games, Fifa dropped the ball a while back and is still trying to get back on track imho.(FM2007(and sometimes SWOS) is my prefered football game)

NHL+Madden - ???? more of the same, updated stats full retail price etc.......rip off? and not being american/canadian i can really live without these!

Lost Odyssey seems good for a console rpg, as does Tales of Vesperia, although i'm not a massive console rpg fan(some of the old Jrpg's have been good though) and have about 10 times the number of really in depth rpg's on PC available to me to play(from Ultima to Oblvion(+modds) and back.

Mass Effect again is a great console game, but after all the talk during developement I think it didn't really do much more than KOTOR had already done? And KOTOR while good is not the best rpg you can get on PC.

Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur yeah this genre(and both great examples) is really best on console, the whole style of that type of game just fits so well with a controller and sitting on the sofa.

Braid and Geometry Wars are both interesting indie type games.
Portal - hmmm this is available on PC......and better on PC!
lots of remakes of arcade classics - played a bunch on Xbox, some good remakes, many not! lots of free stuff like this on PC.

Forza2 sounds interesting, I've so far yet to find a better car racing game than Grand Prix 3(plus season 2000 add on) and that one title pretty much covers this genre for me. I'll check out Forza2 and see how it stacks up.

Same for the others you mention here.

Guitar hero and Rock band.........Rock! great fun games, both well suited for console also(with kiddy like attachments - all fine in my book!).

Free form games: yes ol GTA.....and well my gripe with that game is the same as for Saints row...........I wont buy these games, even knowing their good points as games. To me i just dont like the ethics they sell. Ok it's just a game, but games like these are exactly one of the reasons i'm in no hurry to join this generation of console. Too realisitic graphical representation of violence. I just dont need to enact it out to feel cool, i'm not a teenager anymore

Rainbow Six is a great game, always has been, same for Ghost Reacon and many of the others. But as long as you dont get a shoddy console port on your PC, you get a better game on that platform imho.
PC's just do FPS better - non-port depending.

Add modding(nearly always free) to PC gaming and for me it just does more gaming wise and mostly better.
Yes modern console games do look cool and exciting, but really.......... games are more than that, as all the old real classics i play prove to me over and over.

But please enjoy your console if it makes you happy And for PS3 owners LBP looks like a must have.........it's not quite enough to make me want a PS3 though

Ok, so we made my oldest son a PSN sub-account just to try this stuff out last night.

How it works, APPEARS to be that LBP essentially runs a file sharing network. If you make a level, and are online, anyone can access it. Further, anyone can download whatever level you currently have loaded (are playing). As we bumped around and some popped up and others disappeared, that's what I gathered. Somewhat frustrating when you are looking for a specific one and it's not around.

After you play someone's level, you must rate it 1-5 stars. And you OPTIONALLY can add a tag to it as well. The more people select a tag, the larger it is in the list of tags. A lot of levels with big ole "Rubbish" tags last night. I might be missing it, but I DIDN'T see any way to view an average star rating, which might be more helpfull.

I'ld say a good 60% of the levels made were ones specifically designed to give you trophies. Which is stupid and silly IMO. Occasionally some of these were creative, though.

Another 30% were utter crapola broken.

The remaining 10% were aweful clever.

Someone in Japan made Zaxxon (as with the folding at home, you can see all the folks linked to LBP by location). The instructions were in Japanese, and mine's a bit on the rusty side (I know very basics). The controls were not perfect, and could be tweaked, but it was VERY cleverly done and rather fun.

Someone in Europe remade the OLD Escape from Alcatraz Atari 2600 game.

Various versions of the American Gladiators Eliminator and Ninja Warrior obstical course were around as well.

And a couple of original games that were...odd.

One thing I have to say is aweful nifty of LBP 2 player on the same system. It unlocks everything you do together on BOTH saves at the same time. This has the kids playing together without arguing over who's game to play, especially since a lot of areas require 2 players to get through. THAT, in and of itself, has made this high on the Christmas list.

And it's a feature the LEGO series could REALLY take some notes from.
