    Grandpa:

I'll say it again, Age of Conan MMO is really really good and probably just what you're looking for.

You can play it single player, nevermind all the other players.

From what I remember, you wanted a game with swords, horses, and stuff like that, with little to no magic involved.

While Age of Conan does have magic, you don't really encounter it as much as you do other games. Conan is all about brutal fighting with swords, axes, armor in a brutal world. I seriously think you should look into it.

You do start from nothingness. In fact, you start not knowing who you are, stranded on a pirates island.

I doubt that AoC is right for Gramps.

Why not? He's from Texas, or nearby right?

The writer is from Texas! Texans love it!

Yes, that is indeed an irrefutable argument.

Meh, Imran has about fifteen teams, so it's not exactly news that 'his team' beat Chicago

Gramps, I'd look at, in the following order:

Knights of the Old Republic (1 or 2, each has its advantages)
              Jade Empire
              Mass Effect
Fable (1 is available for the PC!)
Dungeon Siege 1 (not 2 for the reasons mentioned)

Each is subtly different, and you might like each for a different reason really. All are 'first-person' RPGs. The first 3 have proper parties, though only your character is developed from scratch - the others you pick up at different levels. All are quite enjoyable, though.

Yeah, PC is best for this game.

mind you, it is an MMO, so you'll be paying about US$15 a month...and some patches can be big sized. But well, it is worth it. Some of the stories are really engaging. (Voice acting is brilliant, best I have seen in a game yet).

Hey, just thought of a game you might like to play.

                      RISE OF NATIONS.

                      Particularly AGAINST ME on MULTIPLAYER.

Fable: The Lost Chapters (PC) is very good, I definitely recommend it. I also enjoy NWN because of the variety of modules available for download, some of which are excellent. I loved Baldur's Gate 2 when it was new-ish but it's fairly linear, iirc. Fallout 2 was also superb.

I've heard enough bad things about NWN 2 that I've not even considered buying it.

(This would be the THIRD generation of computer I tried to install it on) and even then it was sketchy because I refuse to spend $$$$ for an expensive video card.
Interesting. I've installed NWN on three computers and had no problems, not even with the PIII 850 mhz laptop with integrated graphics. That laptop was way under the minimum requirements but still able to run it (extremely slowly) on minimum settings.

I dunno. I had severe video card issues with the first. It would crash after 10 minutes of play or use of the toolset.

On the second, I could play, but the mouse would disappear (video card issues), and I couldn't see where I was clicking. Also, the toolset was still sort of unstable.

On the new machine, it works fine!

The issues are all with you, not NWN.
