  • Gramps looking a single player game like Guild Wars

Just curious, in Guild Wars, thanks to Con, I can use bots or helpers to achieve my goals.

Now, I was wondering if there are any similiar games that would maybe be more like the old Rogue Spear or even Call of Duty series, where you can play offline and accomplish goals similiar?

    Thanks

Err...never played the FPS games there...so I'm not too sure what you're asking.

But, if you never played the ORIGINAL Dungeon Siege, for all it's other faults, it had a good SP campaign. Party size anywhere from 1 to 8, and you can customize everyone.

But, it's kind of a cross between Guild Wars and Diablo I.

Dungeon Siege 2....I didn't care for.

A game where you can have a similiar gaming experience, start with nothing and grow your player strong

I was wondering if any such game existed for single player, was using the games mentioned as example

      Thanks

Titan Quest is a decent SP RPG a bit like GW, though not as tactical.

The Original Dungeon Siege, as I mentioned, is probably the closest thing, in that it DOES have at least SOME strategic thinking involved with how you assign your spell/skill slots to the team, what to autocast, and such.

Dungeon Siege II kinda ruins it for me with the ultimate attack things, but some folks actually LIKE that feature.

Titan Quest is strictly just your character, and plays more like Diablo II. But, I found it to get rather boring rather quick, personally. And freely admit that may have had something to do with my class choice, but was not willing to restart as something else.

Sacred wasn't bad along that vein, either. But suffers some localization issues, If you know German, play it in German.

            There is always Diablo II....

I thought TQ was a rather dull Diablo clone.

On the other hand, maybe I'm bitter because my save game got corrupted halfway through and destroyed all my progress.

TQ was a Diablo clone, but a pretty decent one I thought.

I'm not entirely clear on what Gramps is after. If it's party building mechanics then the Icewind Dale games are great for that. But there are probably better RPG games he hasn't played.

                  Well.. he was talking about
start with nothing and grow your player strong
                  * IWD II pretty much fulfills that.
                  * Baldur's Gate I is too difficult for a newbie to the genre. It has a good story but bogs down a lot with all the random encounters.
                  * Baldur's Gate II is good... but pretty complicated.

Icewind Dale II is pretty straightforward... But it's isometric, I don't know if Gramps likes isometrics.

If he doesn't, then Dungeon Seige might be appropriate. I had terrible difficulties with NeverWinter Nights I and wouldn't recommend it, but maybe NWN 2? I haven't played that one yet.

Pretty much any RPG does that, so not much help.

Just curious, your referencing Isometrics, is that another way for saying 3rd person view or are you speaking on predefined travel pathways?

                        Isometric-View... 3rd person top-down perspective.

that being said, Icewind Dale 2 is somewhat linear. You can develop your character however you like. And you can go through the dialogue trees however you like. And what your character has done in the past influences dialogue choices. BUT there is a bit of an A-B-C-D progression in the game. You can choose how to solve problems, but fighting is the simplest way... But in other cases, hiding and sneaking past works, or bluffing can work, or intimidating, or trading/bribing.

NeverWinterNights 2 and DungeonSiege is more open-ended, from what I understand.

Actually... Spike, what do you think of recommending Fable or the upcoming Fable II to Gramps? That's pretty openended (in a sense) and you can really develop your character? I only played Fable for a few hours, so can't comment on its intricacies, but maybe it would be appealing? (Even though its console-only, I believe).

I think I still don't know what Gramps wants.
