        Yay Rock Band 2!

My housemate has this for the XBox360 and it's really cool. You can even transfer all the downloaded stuff from RB1 to play on the sequel. Although some songs that only appear on the RB1 initial game cannot yet be transferred.

I play guitar and I sing. In some songs I can do both simultaneously. (I can do this for Radiohead's "Creep" on Expert/Expert and Oasis' "Don't Look Back in Anger" on Hard/Hard.)

However, it's a pity they STILL don't have any Queen. That makes me mad, the swine.

What do you mean cannot yet be transferred? You can transfer up to 55 games from the Rock Band 1 disc to your HD to play in Rock Band 2.

Really? How do you do that? I need to tell my housemate so I can rock out on Creep.

Boot up RB1, and there will be an option to load (almost) all the songs on the disc to the hard drive, where they can be accessed by RB2.

Agreed on Queen. "Another One Bites the Dust" would be excellent; great bass line.

Okay, thanks. I'll look into it.

A lot of Queen's later stuff would be perfect for this, although Freddie's voice was unusually high and so I think a lot of casual gamers would struggle to match it. (Even I have to go falsetto to hit most of his notes!)

                From Queen's Greatest Hits II:
                Under Pressure
                Headlong
                Hammer to Fall
                I Want It All
We Will Rock You (the fast version where they have the full band playing)
                Friends Will Be Friends
                Show Must Go On
One Vision (oh my God, this would be so awesome!)
                Breakthru

Some early stuff would be good too:

                Queen's Greatest Hits I:
                Seven Seas of Rhye
                Play the Game
                Save Me
                Another One Bites the Dust
                Somebody to Love
                Killer Queen
                Fat Bottomed Girls
                Don't Stop Me Now
                Now I'm Here

                Other albums:
                Tie Your Mother Down
                Long Away
You and I (this song is so good - puts me in mind of a romantic evening at a festival!)
                Teo Torriatte
                Sheer Heart Attack
                Spread Your Wings
                Sleeping on the Sidewalk
                It's Late
                Dreamers Ball
                Keep Yourself Alive
                Sail Away Sweet Sister
                Put Out the Fire
                Las Palabras de Amor
The entire damn track listing for The Works!
                Gimme the Prize
                Don't Lose Your Head
                Princes of the Universe
                Scandal
Was It All Worth It (this would be perfect hard rock)
                The Hitman
                Ride the Wild Wind
                Made in Heaven
                Let Me Live
                Mother Love
I Was Born to Love You

                Quirky songs:
                Bohemian Rhapsody
The March of the Black Queen
                Brighton Rock
Killer Queen (use the original - not the Guitar Hero I cover)
Stone Cold Crazy (although the Metallica cover is pretty good too)
In the Lap of the Gods (the non-opera one)
                Death on Two Legs
I'm in Love with My Car
                Innuendo
                I'm Going Slightly Mad

                Also:
In My Defence (Freddie Mercury album - this song starts in the same key as Creep ends in, which is pretty awesome back to back)

Did that love survive Vanilla Ice "sampling" the track?

My kids are bugging me for one of these, and I freely admit they have played the holy hell out of GH2.

Is there much/any difference between the 2, gameplay wise? Specifically with a 6 and 10 year old in mind.

(My 6 year old can beat GH2 easy and most of medium)

I just CANNOT physically play these. Well, the guitar anyway. Oh, I can beat anything on GH2 'hard', but it REALLY hurts my hand, so I can't do more than a song at a time, and sometimes not even a full song.

Don't suppose the have a lefty guitar yet...

                      Anyway, any/much difference between them?

Gameplay wise there isn't much difference. So worth looking through the songlists on youtube to see which you prefer.

Also worth waiting to see what reviews say about GH:WT equipment. RB equipment was universally trashed, and though RB2 is supposed to be much better I wouldn't be surprised if GH:WT is better still.

True in reguards to the equipment.

ESPECIALLY with a 6 year old attempting to play drums...

I seem to recall a stage kit or something for GH that had lights and fog machine and the like. Did that thing ever catch on, and anyone here ever buy it? I'm curious if it could be hacked to be put to a worthwhile use.

I don't know about Rock Band 1, but RB2 does have a "lefty" switch option in the controls menu. You can flip your Strat over and play it Jimi Hendrix style.

RB1 has that too. I am starting to play guitar lefty style, because my right hand is better at the fingering than my left hand is.

I find it odd that guitarists use the right hand on the strings and the left to tab. I'd have thought that the tabbing would be harder to do.

It is, but like anything else, it's all in how you learn it the first time. When I was a kid, I lived in the country and had a neighbor who played golf. The thing is, he was a lefty, and I learned to play golf with left handed clubs. It's easier for me to play left handed than right handed with golf. I learned guitar in the traditional manner, and your off hand gets pretty dexterous after a while.
