  • Microsoft Game Studios has confirmed the addition of former Kojima Productions …

    MGS4 producer joins Halo team

    By Andrew Webster | Published: October 02, 2008 - 09:20AM CT

Back in August, Kojima Productions assistant producer Ryan Payton—one of the key minds behind Metal Gear Solid 4—announced that he was leaving the studio for personal reasons. Now, his future plans have been made official: Payton will be joining Microsoft Game Studios.

"Microsoft has confirmed the addition of Ryan Payton, formerly of Kojima Productions, to Microsoft Game Studios," Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Game Studios, told Kotaku. "Payton joins a group of industry heavy hitters to recently arrive at Microsoft Game Studios, including Corrine Yu from Gearbox and Kenneth Scott of id Software, as well as David Wu from Pseudo Interactive and Frank O’Connor, a Bungie veteran. Microsoft Game Studios is thrilled to have such talented people working to develop new and exciting projects within the Halo universe and supporting existing projects from studios like Bungie and Ensemble."

Rumors are circulating that Payton will be working on the ever-mysterious Peter Jackson Halo project, though no specific games have been confirmed. Payton was able to have a tremendous impact on improving the Metal Gear Solid series—especially in the area of story—so he should be a great addition to Microsoft and the Halo team.

    • So are we to assume that Halo 4 will be one long cutscene?
      John Brown did nothing wrong.

      • He's not working on Halo 4, but Peter Jackson's Halo game. Different titles.

And Kojima is the cutscene guy. He's high on them.

        • DSI verdict: meh.

Significantly worse battery life for a bigger screen and... a camera.

          • It's 0.25" bigger. A lot of men would pay a lot of money for that kind of growth.

              • Posting in this thread merely because somebody wrote "boning".

But seriously, I am in a household now with an XBox360 and a Wii. Both consoles are seeing a fair bit of game time.

I think even a passing knowledge of Japanese age demographics proves you to be incontrovertibly right.

                  • Toys R Us is running their annual buy 2 get 1 free deal. So tempted to get Dead Space, Vesperia, and placeholder game to return (fable2 perhaps) but alas, no dead space at the nearby tru.

anyway, I expect to see this one get the assassin's creed/cod4 treatment in a month, ie drop to 37.99 temporarily.

Instead picked up Indy Blu-ray, Lost Odyssey (finally) and DQ Swords (20$) at best buy.

My wife is leaving on a fellowship in early Nov, so I'm going to have a bit of free time.

                      I already do.

                      • No, you don't. You can store games on an SD card manually now, but not play them there. And the copying will be much easier with the new system.

                        • It's retarded how long it's taking for that basic feature.

                          Nintendo's technical incompetence strikes again.

I've been playing games from an SD card for the past 3 years, via a Slot 2 cart.

I just started Lost Odyssey too, so we can be Lost Odyssey buddies.

Also, like every month, well done Wii.
