    • For the record Bethesda is infamous for making all current machines of the "era" that their game was released in, look like hunks of crap compared to the requirements need to fully run the game. They have even blown the motherboard of one of their own machines they were going to use during the gamecon trailor of Oblivion in '05-'06. Daggerfall and Morrowind in their time needed such high requirements compared to what everbody actually had in their household half of the world couldnt even play the goddamn things.

This time around, it seems, they seemingly can be run by most moderns, but the GPU strain is so heavy the users PC literally falls into a coma until "revived."

Im sure Bethesda is secretly laughing their ass off, as their tradition stands.

      • This is odd. I have a 2.5-year-old system, with a single-core CPU, a HD3850 clocked @ 300Mhz (though i think, that this cant be correct measuring in the CCC), one chassis fan is off, for the other i get occasional boot-warnings that it is off, too, or running too slow (this could also be the CPUI-cooler - i simply igonore the message, but my case is constantly open). Despite all that, i played through the main quest with maybe half a dozen hang-ups tops.

AAHZ, i assume, you occasionally clean your fans (i mean the ventilation in your comp - not the people) ?

        • well until yesterday i kept my case closed and i never used it while it was open. Also i have no other internal fans besides the small GPU fan and the processor fan. I have a 300 watt powar supply, NVIDIA 9600GT, 2 GIG memory, and a dual core (2.1GHZ per) processors, but my case is undersized and that could be an issue as well for air flow. Also Zeke is about 1.5 years old and i never cleaned the fans i described above, but i can see no real residue on them.

i simply had no way to keep all of that cooled without another internal fan while running programs that actually test the "bunk" of the machine, so I am following Frosty Boy's advice ATM. Since i have cooled it down a bit i have not had a crash or overheat after playing for a while so im positive that was the problem.

          • Does your case have any other fan slots? Mine has an inlet slot at the bottom front, an outlet slot at the top rear, and an inlet on the side with a duct that feeds directly to the CPU fan. If so, you could mount some additional fans there for air circulation. Draw cool air in at the bottom, blow hot air out near the top, and in the process it goes over all the internal components.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

            • actually yes i forgot to mention before that the bottom front air duct was totally blocked off (ie right against the desk) this entire time.

So with the side panel open, the bottom front and back cleared, and the mounting of fans in choice spots, my PC will be considerably healthier (and happier.)

It took graphics intensive Fallout 3 to show me my (and lots of others out there) mistake. PC overheating is often an overlooked problem that even help support techs sometimes fail to mention.

Also a bug(?) to watch out for, when you first enter the roof of the hotel, DON'T SNEAK, the rangers will assume you're an enemy and you'll immediately fail the mission.

It was funny how they were able to mow down all those brutes, but when it came to the 3 (I think they were masters?) after the elevator, they got slaughtered. Anyway, worked out good for me, that Eugene is damn powerful.
I was actually carrying that battery when I went to see them

And I manage to kill the three super mutant masters before anybody else died.

I chose the armour as well, as I'm not very fond of miniguns... It's really sweet, and I can use talon armour to repair it. Those guys always send some men to bring me armour when mine is going low on durability

I agree, got two fans on mine and lots of air flow, also learned the hardway

                    • I tried that once when I had a mini fridge and a crappy laptop that ran WinME. The fridge didn't get cold enough to make any difference, partially because the wires and cables running in through the door kept the seal non-airtight.

                      • BTW, because I kept having problems last night (I didn't have Net 3.0 installed, I do now, maybe that was it) and won't be able to play tonight, a quick rundown on my game:

                        My stats are
                        Str 2
                        Per 9
                        End 2
                        Cha 9
                        Int 2
                        Agi 7
                        Lck 9

I am trying to play a bit like a spoiled, manipulative girl, but one who is still naturally kind. I intend to play her as someone who flirts with everyone (male and female). I discovered that the verse starts to have something behind it, but it requires a lock pick of 50 which I didn't have.

I filled out the GOAT and they told me I should be a waste management specialist! That is apparently explosives, speach, and something else? Anyways, instead I picked speach, lockpicking, and energy weapons.

I was worried about my freind, so I gave her back the pistol that she was offering me. Then I sneaked by the first guard, and the Tunnel Snake guy found me hiding in the men's bathroom. I inspired him to go help his mom, which he did, and he gave me his tunnel snake jacket!

Up stairs I ran into a guard, and shot him with my BB gun a bit, but he hit me! and so I ran away and he got killed by some radroaches.

I was looking for something to use to help my freind, but then she shot the officer who was beating her and ran to where I was and returned to me the gun. Then I went down the secret tunnel and the game crashed and I called it a night.

                            • Seriously though, your first level run was really interesting. I didn't know there was an option to "talk" Butch into saving his mother. Usually I had to do it for him.

Likewise I didn't realize you could let Amata kill the guards herself. That girl's got some backbone to her!

Just goes to show this game has an awesome amount of depth to it.

                              • Is there level maxes? I am pretty sure I won't be able to do somethings with computers or repairing or science or some such things, but hopefully I can get someone else to do them for me.
