D3 is going to be the next game announced in the upcoming blizzard's invitational. I cant say for sure, since none of my friends working at blizz tipped me in on it yet but its quite obvious.

-wow is aging
-blizz bought the domain for D3
-recent hiring staff for MMO project
-the lil diablo clue @ the blizzcon 07

But WCIV would most likely move the plot ahead again -- I guess WoW could handle the stuff that happens in between, but it sort of feels like they might be hemming them in, unless they want the events of WCIV to also happen in WoW eventually.

Also, WCIV would have another earth-shaking war, so they'd need to implement some upgrades to WoW to be able to handle the increased load (if the idea is implemented as I postulated).

Bringing illidan back w/ some lame excuse "oh he wasnt exactly dead in FT" and having him killed instead by random 25 dungeon looter isnt exactly climatic death for a key figure in WC story. And what about Arthas? how lame would that be.

If there is WC4, they should just ignore WoW IMO. and cast it asides as some alternate universe freak.

There tonnes of backstory they could fill in. WC4 - The Fall of the Night Elves for instance. If they announced it in conjunction with releasing the FT 1.22 patch, which will be nerfing the same imba NE rubbish we've been putting up with forever, that would be quite delicious.

Happy to be proved otherwise with a link if there's been any hints, but my guess is with Lich King coming up and no sign of flagging interest in WoW they'd release D3 as a small scale MP game like GW.

That's what I was thinking, hence my surprise at Zero's assertion.

NEW upcoming MMO project. As in other than WoW. This isnt exactly a secret as you can see this in Blizz's employment page.

And when asked whether this MMO project was for Wotlk, the response was no, completely new. No other comment other than that.

Doesnt mean D3, but really what else can it be? SC MMO? WoW2? There hasnt been any signs toward neither of them being possibility. Whereas suspicions of D3 just keeps growing and growing.

If I was 100% sure I would be obliged not to tell anyone. Sadly, no ones feeding me the scoop this time. And its driving me nuts.

Im gonna be optimistic and say they are going to announce it in in the invitational this year. But who knows, depending on the development it might be later than that. And like drspike said, judging by how long blizz can milk WoW... its not gonna be soon thats for sure....

its been awhile, but I dont remember the NE's reign as long as my subjective memory of Orc's days. I hated that patch where they opened up the maps. Orc's started running rampant by flanking everyone with speed scrolls.... :shudder:

regardless.. agreed. bring back the glory days of UD imba days.

Yeah, I thought Blizzard had limited themselves for the time being to their three classic franchises: WarCraft, StarCraft, and Diablo.

We've see both RTS and RPG for WarCraft, and just RTS for Starcraft (unless you count the aborted Ghost) and just RPG for Diablo.

So maybe it is time to take Diablo to MMORPG, it was almost there already with D2.

Ditto 99% of the ideas listed before the WoW discussion, and speaking of interfering EA (I want my SMAC 2, damn it! ) ...

How about the -real- Ultima 9, without EA breathing down Lord British's neck to make it all nice for noobs, on the current hardware (Origin was always ahead of the curve there!) and without stealing all his peeps to run a silly MMO?!? >_<

/me longs for a good old-fashioned RPG/immersive world with all the modern shiny stuff .... and yes I've played modded Oblivion and Morrowind, and it's still not enough
