  • Sony and Rockstar have identified some of the freezing problems on the PS3.

    Two issues:

    1) On new 40GB PS3s, there's a new networking chip that is handling differently from the original 60GB/20GB PS3s. A game patch will fix this, no word on when.
    2) On the old 60GB PS3s that have the PS2 emotion engine chip, a conflict with this chip is randomly causing lockups. A PS3 firmware update is coming with a fix for this.

    • This is an amazing thread: http://forums.gametrailers.com/showt...=388602&page=1

My personal favourite part is the guy who claims he has a "degree" and is a "senior software engineer" and types like a 12 year old fanboy spewing gems like:
Those games use Cell BE not the RSX graphics card(GPU) to render graphics.
RSX was never i mean NEVER intended to render graphics!

Okay im going explain it one more time.
The Cell BE processor was developed to do graphics rendering like this youtube video showing a sandbox world rendered just using Cell BE without the Graphics card:

But the graphics card is used for final texturizing, however lazy developers last year in a rush to get games out porting it over optimized the games to use the RSX graphics card to do the rendering, thus resulting in poor performing ports like Madden.

The Cell BE is tied to the 256mb XDR ram which clocks at 3.2 GHZ which is about 5 times faster than DDR ram Xbox 360 uses, so basically they wanted developers to use the XDR ram as well.
But again because the lazy developers used the RSX they had to use the DDR ram tied to the RSX gpu, thus memory problems with 256mb of slow DDR ram.

The second part is awesome. The 256MB XDR RAM for Cell (25GB/s) is "5 times faster" than the the 22.4GB/s RAM in the 360...(not to mention the 256GB/s 10MB eDRAM)

Then a bunch of PS3 fanboys respond saying "he has a degree, he's right you are wrong!"
Then the guy responds to accurate debunks of his posts by quoting his original absurd post saying "READ!"

      He also responds with:
man, its frustrating talking to noobs who have no clue about programming.
bandwidth is talking about the pipline bandwidth, not clock speed of the memory.
Bascially both have similar mobo bandwith, but 360 DDR ram will be buffering while PS3's XDR is finished and made 5 trips already.

      • TDWTF has shown me that "senior software engineers" are almost always incompetent. (Regardless of whether this is accurate.)

        • That thread is still awesome, the more I read it.

The guy is name-dropping terms like "IDE" where they make no sense. He's clearly heard the term before and the guy who used it sounded smart, so he's trying it himself...

And the fact that he calls the PS3 CPU "Cell BE" over and over, though "BE" is a marketing term (Broadband Engine) that isn't really used beyond marketing pages...

When someone challenged his credentials he said this:
Oh really? answer me this universally how do you access a floating pointer with data being passed by reference from a method?

In a SOA architecture what purpose do the methods serve as?

What type of IDE do you work with and what version?

If you would like to provide the company you work for and their "Intranet" address I can verifiy their existance as well.

Don't bother trying to google these for answers they are questions that you won't be able to find answers to without knowing it from experience yourself.

Okay then this is an easy question tell me at the JHU APL do you require a TSI? careful how you answer this.

            ...

            The juxtaposition is delicious.

More like someone pretending to be a software developer.

It looks more like he's an economics major trying to pretend he's something more worthy. I see it all the time.

                  • Another awesome quote:
360 cannot support 1080p cant fit on a 9gb disk. 1080p is 1920x1080 and it cant fit. no game is 1080p full yet apart from gran turismo. The concept isnt hard to understand, why dont people get it?

This is amazing for everything being wrong in such a dense post.

                    1) 360 can and does support 1080p
                    2) Disk size doesn't have anything to do with resolution
                    3) Gran Turismo is not 1080p, it's 1240x1080 (vs 1920x1080 = 1080p).

That's exactly the kind of response he would make.

That's only because he's trying to emulate people who actually knows what they're talking about, and failing. You evidently lack a sense of humour as well, which would make him more comparable to you than me.

                        Take this for example:
no no no... jeeze I wish you guys would read the previous thread...
Gameradar extracted raw video, meaning its without upscaling and post-processing, that means it was in its native resolution, 720p for both versions.
I work with this stuff all the time, when extracting raw video from say a test rig you can extrapolate it without upscaling to the most raw video possible.
EGM/1UP has a test rig they use to extrapolate videos for reviews or compilation with a verbosity monitor which allows them to up-convert or not.

Do you have a "video extrapolation rig"? I sure don't.

It's just a legendary thread of gross stupidity and the groupthink that rallies around the retards.
