Greetings fellow gamers!
I am Apolytons's own Blue Collar Reviewer, I am going to address some games not primarily covered by our Meat & Potatoes Platter, but rather some other games of interest to yours truly!
With that, a personal thanks to Slip Oz who turned me onto this gem from Matrix Games.
I will start by saying I was at first hesitant to purchse a game online from an unkown source, but was very pleased that all went well.
I have a Vista OS and this caused the first "Glitch", causing a slight bit of anxiety but soon after s little research, found by "Right-Clicking" and choosing Run as Administrator as works most excellent.
I did the very easy product update and went to the unknown world of playing my first ever game!
The look is in Hexes and the units are 2 Dimensional, not 3 Dimensional, which is ok, because this is more strategy than control over an individual battle with each man.
The interface is very user friendly!
I choose the Axis powers and immediatly you have multiple options for gameplay such as:
1) What year to start in (1939 or later) as well as the ending year (by unchecking a box, you could go past 1945)
2) Fog of War on or off
3) Oil consumption can be checked or unchecked.
This one was a complex decision, because as one who enjoys history and a movie buff, Scenes from Battle of The Bulge appeared when the German Tank Commander Hessler had to secure the fuel depot in order to run his tanks in battle. I chose oil consumption and let me tell you, put on Tanks for a Lightning war or Blitzkreig and you will soon find out why it is important to balance your forces. The same with the necessity of an Air Corp or for me the Luftwaffe!
Ok, so I started a game and am swarmed with decision making opportunities.
A few this old Gramps had to deal with were:
A)Research. The old saying dont work harder, work smarter! really sinks in, youneed some combat troops but also you need to invest in some technological innovation that awaits you.
B) I want to stop the Allied Supply lines across the seas so I need the vaunted Wolfpack or Submarine attack squadrons. But a point of problem starts with you really should have 6 Subs (or actual groups) attacking at once. The game gives you two at startup, which I highly reccomend sending to due North near Murmansk untill your desired level is met. 2 subs wont take out a convoy and you will only draw the ire and attention of the British Royal Navy. Now, the problem that you face are only one port at Wilhelmshaven so production will be a bit slow.
C) Who should I attack first as we in the fatherland need to take territories and occupy them. It helps to remember some History as some nations will join you later in war. Poland will be the first to fall, next installmant will be how this transpired
