I very vaguely remember gamma world. My brother played it, but I was probably too young to understand the rules.

I did enjoy car wars very much. That was just the coolest. I always went with the pickups. You could put the most armor and guns on those. They seemed a little better than vans.

But then you had semis in the sequel you could put 22 tires and just a massive amount of guns on those.

no hovercraft in car wars (not in my games). There were 3 main components I (my brother actually) had. Car Wars, Truck Stop (introduced rule for semis), and I think the other one was called Sunday Drivers?? Or something like that. I can't remember what rules they had. edit: Oh I think sunday drivers introduced rules for pedestrian combat. You could equip yourself with body armor and equip SMG's etc.

Most Car Wars rules weren't that futuristic. Most weapons were modern day weapons with the exception of lasers. Though other weapons aren't practical to have on cars, but would be very nice to have in rush hour traffic. Such as acid dropers, spike droppers, smoke screens, turrets, etc.

Other stuff is ambiguous in its tech, such as power plants. As you don't need gasoline/petrol in this game, but they don't exactly say how power plants work.

Just remembered playing Gammarauders a few times. It was a pretty fun game, and reading the game-world info was almost as entertaining as playing.

I remember stratego, but my friend didn't like it that much. I wasn't that big on it, but it was kinda cool.

I own about 150 board games, and almost stopped playing computer games completely. Then again, I do play those board games online too.

              Good choices.
If you like those, some recommendations:

              Wallenstein (re-edited as Shogun)
              Power Grid
              Pillars of the Earth
              Goa
              Amun-Re

For those more into war related or epic games:

              Serenissima
              Wallenstein (again)
              Die Macher
              The War of the Rings

And for the non-geeks, some good "family"-stuff which surely beats boring Monopoly sessions and thelike:

              Ingenious
              Ticket to Ride
              Thurn&Taxis

One thing I always wll prefer to play as a boardgame instead of playing it on the computer (if possible) is Go

I used to play this with another kid during recess in elementary school. But recess was too short so we never actually finished a game. I think I remember that whenever either one of us played someone else, we'd finish and win the game easily before recess was over because we were significantly better than any of our classmates at the game.

I've never beaten my oldest brother in Stratego, though. In fact, he's never lost. But I can beat him in Chess fairly consistently.

There was a really cool board game my Grandmother had. Don't recall the name, as we never saw it after Grandpa died when I was about 8.

It was either WWI or WWII based, the units were little cardboard soldiers on stands. The board, IIRC, had a river down the center with 2 bridges, and a prison or bunker on each side, and I believe the point was to break people out of that prison.

Foggy memory, some 20+ years since I played that.
