We used to have chess games in this forum, why dont you start one up?
I've never really considered Chess a board game, though I suppose it is. It really belongs in a category of its own, however. Chess is... well chess. Been around for ages (ie I have no idea how long )

Does anyone know much about this "Heroscape" that my son (8) wants? Looks like some cross of DND, risk, and a CCG, but it's kinda hard to tell how it plays from the info on the packaging.
That's fairly popular in certain circles (adults and children both)... you have it approximately correct, from my understanding. I see it as kids playing with army men with defined rules as opposed to the freeform playing I did as a child... but otherwise roughly the same.

I like your SNOOPY POSTER! - While you Wait quote.
This might be the dungeons game I was remember. My best friend had it. Played it a few times. It's been so long I can't remember if this was it or not.
I picked up Settlers of Catan and its accompanying expansions a while back. They just released the 4th edition also, which I'd like to get.
I have Lord of the Rings Risk, which is a great version of the classic. Shogun. Axis and Allies with some expansion pieces too. Lionheart; Field Command; and a few others too.
Just not enough real life friends to play them with.

I love Games Workshop's Blood Bowl, even though it's a highly random and totally unbalanced game.
I loved that game - very very cool.
Even better after a few beers, with some cash at stake.....
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.
I have (most of) ASL, Republic of Rome, Settlers + 5-6 player, Carcasoin, Mahadras, Enemy in Site, a bunch fo the Civil War series, a couple editions of Third Reich, SL, Pirates (something or another, a recent acuisition), a couple of Lord of the Rings games, a Monopoly, Starquest or something (like monopoly but in space, it is with my mom though), new edtion of Axis and Allies, Axis and Allies europe, Risk (and Castle, might be at home), Chess, Acquire, Diplomacy, Kingmaker, Central America, and probably some others.

Settlers of Cataan
I've played the 5-6 person expansion with some people and it was fun. Despite that they ganged up on me when I took the early lead with a brick monopoly...

Anyone remember a D&D type board game? I think it was called dungeons or dungeon.
yeah! that's it. Dungeon. Great game as a kid. It's a very simplified d&d for board game. Doesn't have a high rating, but as a kid, this game was very cool. It helps introduce you to D&D.
Still play Acquire, occasionally. Haven't played it in years, but Feudal was a pretty fun game. Some of the old Steve Jackson games (Ogre and GEV) were pretty fun and didn't take all day to play.
