But if the problem as been fixed, like you say, how come no one says so in the media? You'd think that Microsoft would do some damage control. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wouldn't buy a 360, because he thinks the current models are lemons.
MS has said they're resolved, and I haven't seen any evidence to the contrary.

    Do you have any?

    • There's lots, including a couple JRPGs like Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, and Enchanted Arms.
I'm pretty sure Eternal Sonata is coming out for the PS3 as well in the near future. Blue Dragon, it seems, was ultimately pretty disappointing (which was a shame, it looked like it had promise). Don't know much about Enchanted Arms.
I make movies. Come check 'em out.

If by "near future" you mean Spring 2008 in Japan only, then sure.

Well, its news to me. Since Microsoft admitted the problem, I haven't seen any evidence that the problem has or hasn't been resolved. I never heard a Microsoft spokeperson say that the problem has been resolved. But if this is true, why isn't anybody talking about it? Surely, this is newsworthy?

You really expect MS to start bringing a dead story back into the mainstream news that reflects poorly on their product? That'd be beyond stupid.

The gaming sites have reported the Falcon (65nm consoles) have fixed it a long time ago. Why you're unaware, I've no idea.

In the gaming world, I do consider Spring 2008 the near future Didn't know it was Japan only, though.

              • Microsoft is more inclined to focus on the positive, like lower costs, cooler temperatures, etc, instead of saying 'Yeah, we really FUBARed with the 360 the first time, but we promise we got it right this time!" Anyone who checks a gaming-related site will know MS resolved the issue.

I dunno. I can't tell much difference between high def or standard def anyway.

I'm just going to assume 90% of the people are *******s, like with any game you play online. What kind of parental blocks are in place on Xbox Live? Is all chatting done via one of the headset doodads? Can you turn those off, are they needed? Language filters, etc. What's out there?

FWIW, I play in the 'Pro' zone on XBL, and find most players are friendly and mostly polite. (And I play games that would probably have a higher percentage of sociopaths playing.)

                  1) It is widespread
                  2) They always sell
                  3) It's indicative of more than one person's attempt to sell a console he ain't going to use (like this is a good thing)
Mock the post all you like - but it's still on topic. You now accept this, so we can move on.

You should get a 360 in my view if it is for you. If you are buying more for younger family members then there is a case for the Wii I think.

In matchmaking, it tries to pair you with people from that same Gamer Zone...doesn't it?

                            • I thought matchmaking algorithms were game-specific.

                              • Yes they are, and no they aren't. What did you think Zone was for?

TrueSkill is an algorithm (patented, even) that is game agnostic, and one of the factors is the player's Zone. But there are weighted inputs givenby the game as well to influence the algorithm
