The only difference is, that I really dislike Oblivion, while I like NWN2 and am just disappointed about its momentary state.

    • one thing funny about the graphics. I usually keep fairly well zoomed out, though when playing with my evil rdd/bezerker char I mentioned above I try to zoom in. but zoomed out the orcs look like apes from planet of the apes. I can't help but think of that when I see orcs from afar.

      • Is there anyway to just make buildings transparent instead of losing your character when really zoomed out? I really don't like the auto zoom in feature.

        • There is an option to make certain environmental objects transparent if they block the camera, but I don't think buildings are a part of that.

Also make sure to have the "ceilings" option or whatever it's called checked or unchecked so that when you are in a dungeon you can zoom out further than ceiling level.

          • hmm walmart didn't have the expansion, I'll have to wait a little while longer (or go to a real store or online). I'm in no hurry.

            • Hurry out and get it at Circuit City - it's $17.99 but the sale ends today. Or Best Buy has it for $19.99 - again, sale ends today.

              • My local Walmart had the expansion a week ago. I have to go there for everything in this town (of 100,000 people) as there is no Best Buy, Circut City, grocery store, etc.

                • I think I'll pick this up eventually, but it seems hard to justify spending scarce game time on it at the moment.

                  • lol, so I'm doing the main game evil path. and I decide to do the evil way at the end. And I thought the final fight was hard before

                    Spoiler:
who knew my party was so tough. Though I wouldn't have outfitted and buffed them so well if I was intending on killing them. I couldn't even take down Kelgar before bishop (who was not buffed) and I went down. I have no idea how I'd win that battle.

So anyways, we'll try this again the intended way. But maybe tomorrow I'll try the evil way. But I'm not sure I can win that fight.

                    • few end game spoilers ahead

Second run thru analysis. Much, much easier. True, I have a power gamer character, but I think it's just easier with a melee type. As you tend to be the target of attack when you are talking to certain people, and things just seem generally easier. Finished (in order) fighter 4/bard1/red dragon disciple 10/frenzied bezerker 5.

I think a big difference was I did a better job of equipping my characters. Since amulets of health didn't seem to prevent level drain the previous time, I equipped with amulet of natural armors (highest I could find and make). My main had a AC of 40 with his holy fiery +5 scythe equipped. And an ac of 45 with a shield and the silver sword equipped. I haven't went over the combat log, but not much can touch him. Khelgar had an ac of 42 this time around. I think he was around 36 or 37 before. Casivir was a little lower this time around, but I didn't use him much, and don't rely on him much. I had Construct this time around (as Bishop didn't betray me completely at the end), and that helped. Only 2 people I lose were Sand, Neeshka, and Bishop (as he only joins you if you attack your party, not the king of shadows).

Not a single person died, and it was easy as hell. I can't figure that one out. I struggled before and had to lower it to normal diff. this time around was a breeze. Kept on hardcore. I did notice you can retreat and open that door into the small anteroom. though king of shadow mirrors still manage to "appear" in there. But this time my energy immunity didn't seem to get wiped out. I had immunity fire on everyone. And some fireburst and other aoe's helped. But my melee guys did a lot more this time around. Especially my main. Makes me wonder why my first character final battle was so tough. I know a straight wizard isn't that great, but it's what I wanted. although maybe I should have prestige classed him, but I didn't know much about prestige classes back then.

My main pretty much single handedly defeated every mob in the game. I kept everyone on auto. Even the final battle I only took control a few times. Mainly to get everyone situated properly and cast a few aoe's. I really didn't need a party much at all. Only time I died was like when I was level 4, and when I was trying to fight my party.

As for the party fight (more spoilers ahead). I did reload a save before I put the buffs on. But still couldn't do it. Only way I could do it was unequip all the equipment of all my chars except my main. . Sure they cast a few spells now and then, and bishop still died, but I managed to defeat the rest of my party. This is hard when they do have all their equipment because I only lost 2 on the Garius fight, I lost more my first run through the game. Khelgar with an AC of 42 is a beast by himself. I can get some of the spellcasters down, but not the melee types.

And the bad bad ending had a few bugs. Some things like the shadow thieves taking back Neverwinter. How can they do that if the King of Shadows has control of everything. Though I don't know where the border of the Illefarn empire is, but I'm pretty sure Neverwinter city is within the Illefarn empire. And it's not that bad an ending. It's not like the King of Shadows took over everything. He's just reclaiming the Illefarn empire. That's not so bad. And then Bevil taking charge of the greycloaks. How can there be graycloaks if Neverwinter is taken over by the shadow army?

                      • k, bought the expansion, but have noticed I don't have enough hard drive space!! i've been ignoring my hard drive for quite a while. I guess it's time to clean it up. When I first got it 80 gigs seemed so huge, never thought I would fill it up.

                        • So far MOTB looks fantastic. I'm kind of dividing my time between this and the civ4 xp. But I apparantly suck at civ4 now (or the ai is much better ), so I'm playing this now.

last night I cranked up the volume enough so my desk shakes with the bass. Scared the hell out of myself when I ran over a trap . But the point is the game has pretty good sound. Excellent sound if I should say so. granted I haven't played a lot of FPS's so it probably can't compare to those. Sounds better than Oblivion I'd say. that's the only game I can think to compare it to (not like very many rpg's are being made these days). And definately better than wow.

                          So crank up the volume.

The caves and ruins at the start of motb look great too. Still wish you could go into first person view though . The camera is an annoyance, but not worth missing out on a great game. Not that I like playing in character mode, but I like seeing the "celings" of interior areas. You can enjoy the atmosphere better that way. I do switch to character view from time to time, but always play in strategy mode top down similar to baldurs gate 2. I do the mid zoom so I can see the monsters fairly close.

The weak point of dnd is I spend too much time creating a character. Sometimes I just want to "play". Course it wouldn't take so long if I didn't power game a character.

I still think I made a mistake. I'm thinking I should have taken a metamagic feat during my caster levels. I'm not sure if I can take a metamagic feat with my monk levels. I hate it when I make mistakes building a character. Anyways I built an entirely new character for motb (and used a mod to make him level 20). I was getting bored of my fighter4/bard1/red dragon disciple10/frenzied bezerker5. So I made a cleric1/sacred fist10/monk(eventually19). right now I'm just working on monk levels.

And I was clueless if I should take practiced spellcaster feat. I don't use spells offensively, but the durations of some spells (important with rest restrictions in motb) are affected by caster level. but I was clueless if sacred fist (which does grant spell levels) increases my effective cleric caster level. So I took the feat. But I'm wondering if I should have taken extend spell metamagic feat. It may be too late to take this now.

                          • I haven't been able to play this game after The Witcher. The controls, story, characters, graphics, everything just suck so much in comparison.

                            • I did finish the expansion. Pretty good.

I hate to say this about d&d, but I'm tired of all these d&d games about gods and all that stuff. I guess that's a big part of D&D.

It was a good game, good story, but I do tire of all the god stuff.

The expansion was pretty good - but you're right about the whole gods thing.

I actually played through twice - once for the "good" ending and once for the "evil". Man, the evil ending certainly wasn't "they lived happily ever after".
