EQ2 has very much changed since you played. The memory leak you were referring to is gone long ago (it was fixed after a few weeks). As far as I can see now, the starting content at least is 100% soloable.

The maturity of players depends on server too. I'm playing on one of the two PvE roleplaying servers. Good people here. It's called Lucan D'Lere, but inhabitants call it "Lucky D'Lere", for a reason.

I may give it a try.

I have a friend, who played a lot of MMORPGs. EQ, EQ2, WoW, GW, even exots such a s Neocron and others. All for a few weeks, rarely months.

After these "escapades", he always returns to DAoC.

While I Admit to reading apolyton sometimes while traveling, I don't watch TV while playing.

And EVE travel is a lot faster paced due to WTZ then it was 2 years ago.

I think that was the server I was on. I might be willing to give that game another go round next year. I do like doing dungeons with parties as in wow, but I kind of prefer to do questing and levelling by myself.

parties are fun and all, but annoying as well . I've had this problem even in NWN1 where people will rush through areas and not fully explore everything. I'm kind of obsessive about that I suppose . I like to explore every nook and cranny. That just isn't possible in world of warcraft when running dungeons. No one wants to spend an hour on one dungeon.

That's one reason I'm taking so long with my NWN2 campaign. I'm almost done with chapter 1 I think. I get every single piece of loot I can. I made a fortune from the orc strongholds. Those guys had so much loot. My guys could barely walk after all that. I even picked up non magical stuff. I'm such a packrat, I can't even throw away 35 gold from selling a small shield will get me. Though I did leave a chainmail and greataxe laying on the ground. It was just too heavy.

I'm right aroung 100,000 gold right now. I never buy any items, but I do buy gems from the vendor to make stuff. I like crafting. I bought an elven bow for this ranger I picked up (you have no choice but to take him), so that dropped me back down to 100,000 gold. I'm heading to the githyanki strongold right now.

If you really want to, I'd recommend to start mid-November. The new expansion pack Rise of Kunark comes out by then and brings a new starter area and a new race (Sarnak, some kind of dragon-beasts known from EQ1), that means a full newbie zone, more help and easier grouping. As they say, RoK brings also along all previous expansions included, so it'd be a very good buy.

That's pretty much how I am. For that reason I hate the EQ2 swashbucklers and their damn "smuggling" (group invis). They spoil every dungeon, bringing the party right to the boss.

Don't tell me you looted all the heavy stuff from the warehouse.

I did leave that stuff. I like how they will bury a magical short sword in the middle of a whole bunch of regular ones. I caught those. but I did leave all the regular ones. There were probably at least 10 of each.

Marathon session yesterday, not that I got that much done. But I'm in the middle of chapter 2 I think. Just finished the trial. I was hoping to get my strongold then, but I guess I have more quests starting with Aldanon or whatever his name was.

I might reload the save when I converted Khelgan to a monk. But I'll look a a monk guide. He went from 3 attacks per round to 2? . At least according to the character screen. And he still has a higher chance to hit with the great axe +2 fiery that I made earlier for him than with his fists (and slightly higher damage even with the gauntlets of the ironfist equipped). I sold my Kamas earlier like an idiot. I'm still confused if Kamas count as unarmed strike. I took all the unarmed strike talents (improved crit, weapon focus, and the other crit one). But my numbers still aren't impressive on the char screen. I put all points into dexterity and I'm wearing an amulet that raises wisdom by 4.

I don't mind having slightly lower numbers as I know his attributes aren't really set up for a monk, but losing one entire attack per round?

Monks do have less attacks per round than fighters (they're in the medium attack bonus group, fighters are high), but they get their own pretty good unarmed attack boni as long as they don't wear any armor, not even leather. So get him some monk robe; Robes of the Old Order (damage reduction) are my favorites, your mileage may vary.

Monks also have high saves in all 3 categories, you'll see him much less charmed, poisoned, infected than before.

Kamas count as unarmed wrt attack boni. Many like them (make him adamantine ones +5). They're a good choice in this game, because there aren't a whole lot of good gloves around. This is different in other games, particularly the NWN1 expansions. I'm generally not a friend of kamas, but for this game I'd say, go ahead. BTW it doesn't matter, as eventually he'll swing a big hammer.

By the way, in EQ2 I moved my main presence to Runnyeye (EU English server). I briefly made a character on Innovation (one of two German servers), but quickly ran away, because the localization is still as dreadful as it was 3 years ago.

I made 2 characters on Runnyeye, a male troubadour and a female illusionist. I'll play them alternating as they get vitality (double XP time for not playing a while), that saves levelling time and reduces level grinding (which is pretty much gone anyway as it seems).

I'm waiting for you there, Spikey.

also it seems monks get flurry of blows which puts them up with fighters I believe (haven't used it yet ). and circle kick?

I have yet to use these abilities, had to swap Khelgorn out for the cleric who's name starts with Z (I'm bad with names ). As I'm doing the purification quest.

Got my keep which is real sweet. I know it's just a silly gimmick, but it's a gimmick I like. I really think world of warcraft is screwing itself by not at least allowing player housing. It's a nice feeling to actually own something . My suggestion for wow was to have player housing in all the main cities on the old world (maybe even some smaller cities like crossroads ) to keep those areas populated when the new expansion comes out. Of course it couldn't actually show in map. There wouldn't be enough room for 9 million homes . It would have to work something like EQ2. I can't remember EQ2 exactly, but I remember having some room, and you could decorate it. But of course I'd rather have a keep than a room .

The keep in NWN2 is also meant as moneysink. You can dump hundreds of thousands in its improvement, with no benefit whatsoever.

You can have a room and even a house in EQ2, but you share it with many others (your's is merely an instance of the building).

If you want to own a unique house on your own real estate, you'd have to play Vanguard.

As for the cleric named Z... (i think it was Zhjaeve or something like that), how do you like Mrs. "Know, that"? This phrase always made me want to kill her.

I joined a fresh guild today, only one old character, all others low level newbies. Pretty much all of them are WoW refugees, who have played it 2 years and more, before it finally became stale. So far they seem to like their new game.
