Hey, I'll readily admit that I have lower expectations for graphics than many players. Unless something looks blatantly ugly (200x200 textures in an otherwise great-looking game), I'll probably be satisfied.
Still, Quake Wars is the Doom3 engine, and it sure does have better models than Doom3. So maybe the graphics are "three years ago", not five. As long as there are no pointy heads I'm happy though

The thing is, we are within reach of photo-realistic gaming and once we reach that level, focus will be turned to game mechanics (which is a lot lot harder).
But graphics appeal to the masses. I think developers will continue to emphasize graphics development as long as you can tell a computer game and a movie apart.
