It'd probably be a good idea to hold cybrecafe owners accountable.

Yes, they should have a rule that limits how much they can spend on the computer.

Why? Did they hold a gun to his head and make him do that?

Involuntary manslaughter by means of gross negligence, perhaps? I agree that holding the cafe staff responsible is a bit of a stretch, but then again they should have probably done something substantive to ensure this guy wasn't posing a threat to his own health. Given this happened in China, it'll be interesting to see how the authorities crackdown (further) on Internet cafes.

Sad news but don't see how you can hold cafe owners responsible - I've been to a few of those cafes in Shanghai and many are pretty large. I don't see how at the very least you'd stop people leaving for a minute and returning.

I do not know what the legal term is, but they can definitely see a problem. Even assuming they don't notice that the person has been there for 72 hours straight, a person in such a state of exhaustion will look different. I'm pretty sure that even after "only" 24 hours of non-stop gaming, you could tell that the person needs a break.

Maybe practically enforcing a time limit is difficult, but the staff should make sure that people don't pose a great threat to their own health. That is doable.

Primarily, of course. But I am not buying the idea that the staff are not guilty of negligence here.

In the Land of the Free, I'd expect people to sue a restaurant if they fell down the stairs there, which much sillier.

I think they should sue the internet really.

A Korea at least a good number of people live in cyber cafes, so that would make it really hard to keep track of people.

                              I'd criticize that too.
