I dont own any of the consoles, and so cant comment to the substance.
But let me make a couple of points.
Even if 360 had better games in every genre, it might still make sense for SOMEONE to buy the PS2, based on price alone - esp if they didnt have an HDTV, AND they wanted a console mainly to play the kinds of games (katamari? Harvest moon? Help me here, im foggy) where PS2 matches 360. (or maybe even for that stuff the next gen has marched on) I realize that WASNT El cids point, his point was much further out on a limb than that.
On genre definition - IMO a traditional RTS and a "strategy" game are really seperate genres, not just subgenres. So Western RPGs and JRPGs wouldnt necessarly NOT be genres just cause they are closer.
Now they MIGHT be closer. I tend to think of the market as defining genres, more than an analysis of gameplay mechanics - if someone says they like game X, would you consider recommending game Y. See my discussions with Imran (I think) on whether the Paradox games should be considered RTS.
