There's no point in arguing with someone so stunningly ignorant.
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

The Xbox 360 doesn't just have better looking games - they are better period. Now that Mass Effect is out you can take any genre and the Xbox 360 will have a better game in it than the PS2.

Counterexample: jRPG. What do I win?

The SO is really enjoying Blue Dragon. Especially the song from the Deep Purple singer that plays during bosses.

            He also enjoyed Enchanted Arms.

Since you like to cite review scores so much:

              Enchanted Arms: 69

              Blue Dragon: 78

              Final Fantasy X: 92

At least you didn't mention Eternal Sonata...

I'm just calling it as i see it - if i felt otherwise I would be joining you in your next-gen heaven.

And i'm disapointed the best anyone has(especialy Dr.Spike, who for years I've always thought as pretty even handed in his postings - i guess people do change?) is to resort to pretty lame attempts that neither disprove, nor prove anything. I have an opinion based on my experience of the subject matter - you have yours and it is about as simple as that.

This isn't a popularity contest, or some penile school yard competition - certainly not for me anyway, but you guys can do what you like of course.

Just because something is selling alot doesnt mean squat in this era i'm afraid - research has proven that you can sell any old crap to people. I just feel that is exactly what the games industry does now for the most part.

So i'm now more interested, and do most of my gaming in the 'world cinema' of the gaming arena - in the same way hollywood lost much of my interest(and money) and I tend to look out for the best movies from the fringe.

hmmm another analogy......I prefer a well cooked home made stake with all the trimmings, made with care and thought to it's quality and taste, than to eat at macdonalds.

That might put me in a minority, but i can easily prove scientifically that my 'minority' food is better at it's job - that of feeding me and keeping me healthy.

If you really want your penis contest though(i wouldn't wish to deny you the ritual) prove this wrong:

"But right now the PS2 beats any other console hands down in the quantity, quality and sheer variety of games you can play on it."

This is the only bit i've offered up as a definative statement - everything else in my posts has just been my opinion.

I know Asher likes digging out lots of stats and tables(your much more thorough than I am at this ), so someone produce a list of all the currently available AAA titles for PS2 and those available for any of the next-gen consoles. It will need all Japanese released only games also, as the import game market has value in terms of getting good gaming quality.

Then divide that into simple categories of games, and add a miscellanious(the PS2 will have lots here).

Then maybe i'll shut the f**k up and you can go "wooo who! my penis is bigger than El_Cids!" and feel all big and clever...............or maybe not? only the list can tell

Oh and Asher - you're right and i gave my reasons for not putting much stock in console mp. I could have been just unlucky, but i'm not the only person who has made these kind of complaints about this kind of experience. It hasn't made me want to pay for the privilege.

I am even-handed. If you were to just say I don't think the Xbox is for me, I'd probably just let it go.

Instead you say that the only improvements in recent games are graphics - this is patently untrue and you have been given a lot of counterexamples across a few threads. Games like Gears of War have moved gameplay forward (whilst looking great) for shooters, Forza2's use of modern technology to model physics accurately makes for the best driving experience ever in a game, and games like Bioshock have been praised not for their graphics per se (though they are great) but a gripping story and immersive world.

And you don't argue the point you just come back with "it's just the evil marketing, those games sell well but are actually crap", or imply all console games are mindless shooters for the drooling masses, or any number of equally untrue points. You should be able to see why this attitude elicits negative posts from others.

I recognize the low review scores, but as I said...he enjoys them. Personally, I think Final Fantasy X was by far the worst out of the bunch due to the lack of an actual game in it... But I hate them all equally.

And I didn't mention Eternal Sonata because it hasn't been played yet. He's 60 hours into Blue Dragon and still enjoying that. Eternal Sonata comes after. Its metacritic was 79 BTW.

Nothing would make me happier than to see the "JRPG" genre die a horrible, horrible death.

WTF? That doesn't put you in the minority.

The better comparison here isn't McDonalds vs quality steak at all. That's perhaps the most retarded thing anyone has ever posted in this forum, and that's saying a lot.

The problem is what was "AAA" 5 years ago isn't "AAA" now. The genres keep getting pushed forward. Personally, I've played all of the AAA games on the PS2 and I'd be happy never to play any of them ever again. Take Metal Gear Solid 2. Hugely positive review on the PS2. If it was released today on the PS3, it'd be brutalized in the reviews for awful image quality, boring gameplay, and retarded plot and cutscenes.

Oh and Asher - you're right and i gave my reasons for not putting much stock in console mp. I could have been just unlucky, but i'm not the only person who has made these kind of complaints about this kind of experience. It hasn't made me want to pay for the privilege.
I hadn't been aware you've had extensive online console experience. Oh, you haven't.

You're not fooling anyone. You're not some unbiased God, you're about 10 years behind the curve and a cheapass to boot. Some of us are actually gamers. So if you're going to keep pimping consoles you don't own and games you don't play, then go ahead, but do it elsewhere.

People can enjoy ****ty games. And whatever the metacritic score, Eternal Sonata is a laughable piece of ****. Your dig at FF X actually applies to Eternal Sonata - and the problem is that Eternal Sonata equally lacks a storyline.

I didn't know you played it. And from what I've read, Eternal Sonata isn't 90% FMV like FF X.

I'm also unaware that "generally favourable reviews" on metacritic is equal to "laughable piece of ****" in Kuci's teen lingo.

Gamespot thinks the game is "great" and says:
Eternal Sonata's superb art direction will dazzle you, but a dreamy story and exciting battles make it sing.

                          * Magnificent visual design makes even the most mundane places look beautiful
                          * Stunning musical score
                          * Inventive battle system is both tactical and packed with exciting action
                          * A great cast of warm, charming characters will draw you into the story.

You might find Eternal Sonata to be relatively short for your tastes if you are a fan of Japanese RPGs. It clocks in at around 30 hours in a leisurely play-through, but it's worth noting that there is little filler in the gameplay or story. The game gets to the point with a smart, action-packed battle system and a dazzling world that will take your breath away. Yet while it may be the beauty that draws you in, it will be the warmth at Eternal Sonata's heart and soul that will prevent you from ever wanting to leave.

Methinks you are confused or otherwise clueless.

I've watched a couple friends play through most of it on my 360. And, to clarify, here's Eternal Sonata:

Run through random-shaped region with the occasional chest containing potions et. al. while fighting the exact same encounter (I'm not kidding, it's literally the same set and arrangement of monsters every single time - in fact, I've only rarely seen 2 different kinds of monsters in the same area) dozens of times - and the enemies you fight are completely random, too, e.g. at one point you're fighting goats with halos for no detectable reason. At the end of this region, you fight a boss, which almost never is actually related to the story at all - it's just "oh an even bigger animal showed up and is attacking us". Then you switch to cutscene, which slowly moves the [nonexistent/entirely predictable] story forward, and which makes your ears bleed if you have the English voices on. Then you move right into another similar region. Very occasionally, you are in a city, where you can sell photographs you've taken of enemies for ridiculous amounts of money.

And anyone praising the "story" in this game is clearly on crack.

re: art direction: at one point early in the game the characters are fighting through a sewer. The sewer looks like a ****ing palace. It's the most gorgeous sewer I've ever seen. And since that trait is pretty diametrically opposed to the very idea of a sewer, I call that terrible art direction.

Oh, and the enemy combat AI is painfully retarded. You just watch it and wonder "what the **** is it thinking?"

Judging that a lot of reviewers gave it 80%+, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Seeing as the SO enjoys the other JRPGs on the 360 and they got reviewed even worse, I'd think he'd enjoy that as well.

But let me reiterate...I've never seen a single JRPG worth playing in my life. It's a taste thing.

Just like you've argued in the past, there's a dearth of good jRPG's for the platform, so the reviewers mark up what little there is that's playable.
