    Sony is pathetic.

    First of all, every couple weeks they release an "update" for the PS3 that's always 119MB in size. Even if it's a TINY fix, they release the whole thing so it takes 15 minutes to download. Then ,after each download, you need to plug in all your controllers again to re-sync them. Fine.

    But this time they set a new low. They released a 1.92 update not too long ago that broke Warhawk's online play. So they rushed out a 1.93 update the other day, that will NOT download past 4% on MANY PS3s (including my own). They wait a few days and post the binary on the web for download. But they ****ed THAT up too, and it only lets you download 10.2MB of the 119MB file -- no matter what!

    There are some demos from the PS store I want to try, but it refuses to let me on because I'm not on the latest version. And no matter what I do, I cannot UPDATE to the latest version.

    What a gong show, honestly.

    Funny that, I tried just out of curiosity, and I can download that 1.93 thing from the Web just fine...

      All 119MB of it? Can you host it somewhere, because all of IGN would be indebted to you...

      Is this the EU update or NA?

        I have no clue what the hell it is. I just entered "ps3 1.93 download" into Google and took the first link, http://www.limk.com/english/limk/15396/ - on top of everything, it gave me a very nice 1.5 MB/s download speed on average.

        It's some .pup file - I don't know what that is, either. But yeah, I got 119.48 MB, though I can't check its validity with MD5 or otherwise. You better try that link yourself and see if that works for you, I presume it would.

          That's not the official Sony site, obviously. Somebody has intelligently mirrored it. It turns out if you unplug your ethernet cable on the PS3 and plug it in every 4% (where it freezes) it works. So I've now finally updated after an insane amount of effort.

          My "Sony is pathetic." statement stands.

            Uhmm... if people can't download a file, isn't looking for a mirror the first thing they should do?

            The Ethernet unplugging thing is stupid though.

              The whole point is:
              1) Sony's releasing frequent massive updates that are not tested, breaking functionality
              2) Sony's autoupdate does not work
              3) Sony's manual download method does not work

              All 3 are unacceptable.

                Yes they are unacceptable. But it doesn't mean people not Googling for a mirror is acceptable, either.

                  It is generally NOT a good idea to download firmware (which can toast your hardware) from unofficial sources. I don't consider it acceptable to acquire firmware from unofficial sites.

                    Hm. On that subject, I should note that the official site should damn well list the correct MD5 for a download as critical as that.

                      Yup. Xbox 360 updates are digitally signed as well, which is a good idea...

                            It's a bit beyond it right now. The interface is just horrible (Agathon raves about it, but I've debunked that in his Sony Resurgence thread), the system is buggy, the updates are ridiculous. Many games (including most downloaded ones) also need to be "installed".
