Looks like Asher was incorrect (shock!)

the friend code will be tied to your mii, with the games importing the friend list from the user's mii.

    IGN on Big Brain Academy:

Unlike Wii Sports, the title also automatically imports all the friend codes stored on your Wii console, which is an extremely positive sign step toward the eradication of individual software-based friend codes. What this means is that you won't need to re-enter any friend codes if you've already added your friend's Wii system number to your console.
A very slow roll out for the online system, but next year this time, there will prbably be 15-20 online wii games, I count 5 by this september.

Hopefully they'll get a voice chat option by the time brawl is released.

It's up to the developers; many of the Nintendo games will need game-specific codes, IIRC, while others (like Elebits) will use the Wii number.

Probably cause elebits was a launch title and Nintendo didn't have things figured out how they wanted it yet?

Madden will be using the mii codes, or so I have heard from IGN, so that's promising that 3rd parties now have access to the Mii system-something I think wasn't the case with early games like elebits.

according to Nintendo, there were about 400k mario strikers connections (games played, not individual isps) this week in Europe. Considering that the game was released officially on friday and there were apparently some network issues, this is quite promising for online wii games.

I guess those thousands of players didn't find the friend system to be painful enough to prevent them from playing.

It's a shame Asher is not around to respond.

Must be, or on holiday or something. It seems rather unlikely he's biting his tongue.

Maybe the exchange with LOTM and then Winston got him banned
