But you still seem to having a problem with jumping LotM. Try to time it so that you jump at the last possible second, and most importantly hold down jump (rather than tap it) as you'll jump further this way.

See the smaller crate on the right? Jump on it and then jump to the bigger one. There are more crates down the hall on the left. Always check for a crate slightly higher than the one your one if you get stuck

Most of the walkthroughs just say "go over the boxes and then use grenades" or something like that - they dont tell you HOW to deal with particular jump problems. Again, they assume some familiarity with the genre, which is not unreasonable, but doesnt necessarily help me. Again, thanks for the hints ive gotten here.

well ive made it to where there are human soldiers fighting against me for some reason. The first couple were a piece of cake, but then I enter a room where Im on the upper level, and it seems like theres a squad of them down below, and not much cover up on the catwalks, and theyve got grenades - and Im down to only two grenades. Im not sure im quite stuck, but some maybe some broad guidance to the tactical situation would help.

The military sent a team in to "contain" the situation. Contain was defined in this case as killing everything living in the base. You're living, you're in the base, so they're trying to "contain" you.

As to your situation, I think I know the spot. Aside from grenades, I recommend staying back, using cover, and killing them as they try to advance. If it's where I think it is, they only have one path to come after you.

oh yeah, id managed to get through that area right after I posted. I made it to the hangar that leads out to the surface, and managed to kill the soldiers who come into the hangar. Unfortunately I took a lot of damage to do that, and even after restoring health, im only at 85, and zero HEV. The area outside seems pretty hard. I think Im supposed to get to the bunker that leads down. Im thinking running for the bunker may be better than trying to fight it out with the squad outside the fence.

edit: that actually worked, I made it to the bunker and improved health and HEV.

The shaft you access next is pretty hard though. Evidently you have go down, not up, as up leads to a dead end. And it seems as if the paratroopers dropping from the planes/choppers respawn (is that the right word?) endlessly. I can get a bunch, but im having trouble getting all of them.

You know, back in my days, when I learned to handle teh FPS genre with Duke Nukem 3D, I didn't have teh internets around to have people hold my hand when my health fell to 85%.

Not sure if I mentioned this but make sure you keep permanent saves when entering each area, and then quicksave as you go where appropriate. If you are not sure whether quicksaving is a good idea (because you took damage and aren't sure how far the next health pack is) then do another permanent save.

They respawn, forever i think. Just kill the first two asap and get through to the bottom. There is a access but i cant remember how it is. Im guessing you cant afford to stay in the shaft very long.

There is a fan down the crawlspace that might be tricky, so i would save before attempting it.
