WHO IS UNCLE BILLY?
Uncle Billy Lane was the late W. G. Lane, Sr. He was among the earliest residents of Altavista in the early 1900’s. Tradition has it that he established the practice of area farmers and merchants coming to town on the first Saturday of each month to barter and trade for livestock, crops and goods at an area known as the Altavista Trade Lot. Mr. Lane presided as the master auctioneer and also provided entertainment. The Trade Lot continues to operate on the first Saturday of each month as a giant flea market.
WHAT IS THE UNCLE BILLY’S DAY FESTIVAL?
Our festival is a two-day celebration under the auspices of the Uncle Billy’s Day Committee, Inc., a group of volunteer citizens who plan, raise funds and coordinate the activities of the weekend.
Uncle Billy’s Day started in 1949 as a one-day event to commemorate the founding of the Trade Lot. It is held each year on the weekend of the first Saturday in June. It has grown in the past several years to a two-day festival featuring a vast variety of activities. Among them are, of course, the flea market, a craft show, a car show, children’s games, pony rides, exhibits, fireworks and quality entertainment. As you can see, we have something for everyone. Due to the fact that our festival is family oriented, alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Also, please note that no animals are allowed in the park during the festival.
During the weekend, entertainment can be found on stages throughout the Riverfront Park. The entertainment is a variety of music, dance, magic, juggling, clowns, puppets that feature top quality children’s shows, and top local, regional and national stage acts, playing different types of music, all of which are offered at no charge to the people of our community.
Our Festival is held at the Staunton Riverfront Park in Altavista, Virginia - a great park for family gatherings!Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139.14a

Wow, just got back from Prague and find out I got killed off before I even got a chance to post in the thread.
A new record for me. I guess it was a good week to be out of town.
Sign me up for the next one and I'll rejoin.
Flame off. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Curiosity killed the cat
‘When my name is whispered through the pride
Is this talk of love or regicide?’
The performers had their say and cast their votes. Some thought the elephants were trying to tell them who had killed Harry but couldn’t understand the message. Others thought Clyde (loved by the audience, grrrrhhh) had got away with murder for too long and said so. They all admitted they had heard voices in their ears saying Uncle Billy, but they looked at each other and said who’s Uncle Billy?
As the majority voted for Clyde we frog-marched him to the cannon. There was a big roar from the cannon and Clyde even managed a somersault in mid air
(always the showman) but he did come to ground.
We buried him where he landed and the elephants packed the earth solid. Another Star gone. Who would look after the lions? On the ISDG 2012 team at the heart of CiviLIZation

No benefit for Mr Kite
‘It's somewhere I can taste the salty sea
There's a kite blowing out of control on the breeze
I wonder what's gonna happen to you’
We were still in shock from the events of the day before as we set out to travel to our next venue. ‘Onwards to Atlantic City, New Jersey ’ I said. Eventually we arrived and pitched camp and erected the Big Top the following day.
I decided to give the crew a day’s leave. Some went to the casinos and were taken to the cleaners on the roulette wheel: no lucky balls there. Some went to fish restaurants for pike, salmon and trout. Others simply visited the boardwalk and Ripleys museum.
Next day we set up the sideshows and started the ball rolling. Grock continued doing the Wall of Death and Alfredo the cannon. With Clyde gone, William had to do the lions, elephant and horses slots. A versatile performer indeed.
This time Felix, Jules and Charles fed the animals and Robert, Gypsy, Ajax and Xia tidied up our usual mess stain. We still make a tidy profit from this. Alfredo put out the bear bins for recycling.
Without prompting the band started up at 17.50, with ‘Fowl Play’ for the clowns Grock and Felix, who started the show again. Then came the acrobats Xia and Robert, followed by William Kite with a combined horse and elephant routine. The elephants still struggled with the words BGEBGBGEB.
At the interval I was approached by Ajax. ‘ Someone has stolen five of my swords. I‘ll have to use my reserve set’. I checked my trailer and Harry’s knives were still under lock and key. But I was worried.
The second half saw William out with the lions. He pleased the crowds and then we had Charles on the tightrope and the trapeze artists as a finale. Outside Gypsy continued to pull the crowds. Once again a handsome profit.
I started to get the gang ready for the next trip. Everyone knew what they had to do. ‘William’ I called ‘I need help with this William ’, fully expecting him to be behind me. I looked across at Jules and Felix. ‘Chr*st’not again.
We found Ajax’s missing swords. They were stuck in the ground point upwards to pierce William’s hands, feet and neck. He was above the ground but not as high as a kite Another star performer dead.
‘We’ve got to end this madness, vote, but we need to get away from Atlantic City, quick’
We buried William outstretched like a cross on a kite. We thought he would have liked that.On the ISDG 2012 team at the heart of CiviLIZation
