Got news, for you Asher, to most normal non-geek folks the 360 IS a novelty, as is ANY gaming console

Consoles stopped being novelties with the Playstation, except for Nintendo who is determined to ride that niche home. Look up the word.

Was it not you yourself who said earlier that there would be price cuts designed in part to undercut the Wii?

No, but the prices would overlap at some point seeing that Nintendo overcharges for the Wii in comparison.

Lotm it's not really worth it, even if you were to convince Asher he is oversimplifying the picture he will never admit it.

Having said that, I considered the situation carefully and bought an X-Box 360 this weekend.

What did you pick up with it?

And I've got a Wii enroute to my house now.

Finish Zelda. If you still don't like the franchise after that, something is wrong with you.

Gears of War and Crackdown. I didn't really want Crackdown (it sounds pants) but I got both games for £15 with the console, which was worth it for GoW alone I thought.

Also picked up Halo 2 as I missed it on the X-Box, and want to test the backwards compatibility before buying any more older cheapies. I'll probably get Ninja Gaiden as I was a bit miffed not to play that.

I've also got my eye on the Microsoft steering wheel. Not sure whether to fork out £80 for it now with PGR3 or wait a couple of months when it will inevitably be bundled with Forza2.

There's a few other sports games I might try to pick up cheap on Ebay, but no hurry.

Speaking of backwards compatibility, if you're into RPGs and haven't played Knights of The Old Republic, you might want to pick it up (though there is a PC version as well). It is backwards compatible, though I've also heard it can have the odd annoying slowdown when the emulation falters.

I think Asher secretly loves one of the main Nintendo game series - it's the only thing that can explain his fanatical hatred. It could be Zelda, but since that wouldn't be too embarrassing to a serious gamer (I lurve Zelda) it's more likely to be Pokemon or Mario Party.

It's a great game, but played it through already.

I've never played either of the latter two on any platform.

I'm a fan of many of the Zelda games of past, but recent Zelda games I thought were really dull and were only highly reviewed based on the nostalgia factor (eg, the Wind Waker). Ditto for Super Mario Sunshine.

I'm an oldschool NES/SNES gamer and I would love for games to revisit the classic roots, but the current incarnations on the Gamecube and later for these games have been awful and formulaic with the same damn characters. They need to do something new -- and no, fishing with the wiimote in Zelda does not cut it.

As for my hatred...I bought an N64 on launchday with my own money that I'd saved up for about a year. I think that says it all.

                              I knew you'd have it.

I think I'll get it but I'm not sure whether to get it now with PGR or wait and get it with Forza2.
